Tells a story about Charlie Hartfield getting stuck into the pigs before the 2-0 at the Lane. He wasnt in the squad and Bassett said to him 'when they arrive get into the tunnel and cause as much bollocks as you can' and off he went! Pinned palmer up by the throat! Tells a good one about Sunderland away from the year before too. Great set of lads that squad, still my favourites for everything they accomplished

I don't think I've ever seen a player transformed as much in 1 season as Beesley. 90-91 (the 4 points after 16 matches season) it was like watching a child play with a hand grenade, the nadir being "The Paul Beesley and Marco Gabbiadini Show" when Sunderland rolled into town.

The following season though alongside Brian Gayle he was superb. The 3-1 at Hillborough is remembered as the Bobby Davison match but Paul Beesley and Brian Gayle were the architects of that victory for me, not a foot was put wrong all night. Wednesday had a very strong team that season, Hirst was on the radar of many a top side but he didn't have a sniff.

Quite hostile around Roker and was glad to get away.

Just listened to the first few minutes and it sounds a great listen although I'm really grateful for this laptop screen otherwise I'd be wiping me face from Beesley's spit every other word with that accent!

Fond memories of Beelsey although I have to admit I was more of a Brian Gayle fan but Gayle got too many injuries. Will definitely listen tomorrow to the full thing when working from home!

Haha definitely worth a listen, if for nothing more than the greyhound and Charlie Hartfield stories, blades stuff starts around 5 minutes in till around 45 mins

If Gayle hadn’t been a bit error prone he’d have played for a top club. Great defender and organiser, just had the odd ‘moment’.

He used to work with a lad I know and he's definitely a character. He left one Billy and his dog story out, probably for the best

Some artistic licence in there too. Hodgy nutted Armstrong and I'm pretty sure he wasnt knocked out. And Hartfield just cuffed Cantona round the back of the head.

I think it was different in the late 80’s; early 90’s, many players had really basic ability, compared to today’s technical players.

My memories of Beasley was in the early days he had a bit of class and I was impressed, seemed a step up from our normal defenders.
Most defenders just “lumped it” forward but Beasley used to come out with the ball and look to pass.

I thought he was pretty good HOWEVER he always seems to have a bad mistake in him.
Remember his giving the ball away several times and he struggled for pace (against the quickest) and sometimes looked exposed.
