"Sheffield United wants to beat fellow countrymen in battle for Club Brugge midfielder"

Marvelous Nakamba can leave Club Brugge. The Zimbabwean can count on a lot of interest. According to Sunday Mail , Premier League PhD candidate Sheffield United may now be added to the list of candidates .

The past few days Nakamba has already been linked to Aston Villa and Newcastle United, but Sheffield also sees something in the arrival of the 25-year-old midfielder from Club Brugge. Although Nakamba can also count on the interest of clubs from Germany, France and Italy.

No bargain price
Although Nakamba did not often get to a base place in the past season, Club Brugge wants to go for it. Trainer Philippe Clement already indicated that a departure from the defensive midfielder can only be discussed with a substantial bid.

Nakamba himself, just like his entourage, has the intention to leave Club Brugge this mercato anyway. He is currently active with Zimbabwe in the Africa Cup. Afterwards work will be done on his future.

Are we OK with a player who does not often get to a base place?

Yes. Unless we are playing rounders.

Forum back to normalcy.

Breathes sigh of relief.

Please, please let us sign him. He has what could either be the best name for a player ever, or potentially the best laugh we’ve had in a long time.

What about third base? Has he been there yet?

Just seen that Villa have agreed a deal of £11 million for him. They are turning into the footballing equivalent of Brewsters Millions.

MARVELOUS NEWS FOR VILLA
Aston Villa
have agreed a deal worth more than £11m for Club Brugge midfielder Marvelous Nakamba, Sky Sports News understands.
Nakamba had been refusing to train with the Belgian side after Villa's first bid was turned down last month.

He didn't even get in Zimbabwe's team at the AFCON.

I don't think Villa spend a minute negotiating do they?

Luton Town since signing Marvelous Nakamba:

• Second-most points gained in the Championship
• Only Burnley conceded fewer goals
• Reached the play-off final
Now over his injury and has improved Luton massively since joining in Jan.

Wouldn't be cheap (signed by Villa for £12m and is on ~£30k/week) but is exactly what Utd have needed in their midfield for years.

I’ve been impressed by what I’ve seen of him at Luton and was going to post on this thread after their win the other night.

He definitely has some attributes we lack in midfield; height, energy, aggression. He can play a bit too.

Didn’t feature much for Villa in the PL and is 29 though, so I wouldn’t want us to break the bank for him.

The age is the only sticking factor really. He's only got a year left so assume they'd be happy to cash-in. Might even get him for something as low as £5 million but he'd likely want 3 years and I'm not sure we should be doing that.

I'd suggest a loan but it's unlikely they'd loan him with only a year left.

I think that's the key isn't it.

Players running down their contracts is becoming more and more common in English football like in American sports (correlation to the increased number of American owners perhaps?)

I think we can throw some cheeky low-ball offers to players on their last year and if the other clubs don't accept start tapping up their agents (i know it's technically illegal but every club does it unofficially)

Then come back in January with another low offer and really put the pressure on the selling clubs.
