Bert got to thinking about when he's seen us defeated yet he went home proud and happy.

Only ever happened twice.

Hull in semi final at Wembley and away in the cup at Norwich 1989.
It's not always about winning, it's sometimes about being very proud of your team.
 



Agree with Hull and, whilst not proud, also went away happy when we had that crazy 3-0 loss to Huddersfield at the Lane, as I thought we played really well apart from conceding 3 goals!

The one at Norwich, the best game we ever lost

Weekend in Yarmouth .... Sinitta live in Baileys to top it off ................... o_O

Wilder brought our pride back.

Maybe only a handful of games I
in the last 3 seasons when I haven't felt proud of the team.

Compare that to the previous 9 years which were quite the opposite.
 
The cup game at Norwich in '89 has bitter sweet memories for me, I was having cancer treatment at the time & my dad couldn't get any tickets despite being a season ticket holder for eons, so my mum (a bit cringe worthy I thought at the time), contacted Norwich direct & played the sympathy card. They responded magnificently I have to say & invited me & my dad as their guests & treated us like royalty. Robert Fleck greeted us at the ground & sorted the tickets, took us down the tunnel & onto the pitch pre game, & then Dave Bassett came out & took us into the Blades dressing room & introduced us to the players. One weird moment when Bassett said "This is our captain, Paul Stancliffe", only for Paul to smile & say "Hi Steve", as I knew him well from school. They were all so nice & it is a memory I will treasure forever, shame we didn't quite get the victory but I agree with the poster above, the best game I personally have seen the Blades play & lose.
 
We got tickets in the Norwich stand, when we scored hundreds of other Blades in the Norwich stand all jumped up :-)
Also I think Norwich were top of the Divison 1 back then.

They were top and we were a 3rd division outfit. It was Dale Gordon who did for us that day.

After Hull - proud, but not happy in a joyful sense.
 
After most of the defeats in Nigel Adkins reign.

Edit: Oops sorry, I mis-read 'proud' as 'totally f******g pissed off at the absolutely pathetic way we gifted the opposition 3 points every f******g time'
 
Maybe not proud - but I felt strangely encouraged after Scunthorpe trounced us at home 3 or 4 nil during Gary Speeds brief tenure as Manager.

It was an evening game and upto that point had suffered Blackwell Bombardment-ball for a year or so. We tried to play everything through Leon Britton who played a Couttsesque role that night and he was probably in shock after being conditioned to the ball being 10 foot above his head instead of being directed to his feet.
 



The 89 Norwich game, I went on my own cos we were living darn sarf at the time. I got standing next to an old boy who'd seen our cup win in 1925. His verdict was that United had "Done us proud" vs Norwich, which I took as high praise from someone who'd seen the Blades in their heyday.

The Norwich game is a great memory despite the result.

I was a young(ish) pup working at Health Authority offices at Middlewood at the time . Ex Blade Dennis Finnegan ( Joe Shaw's understudy apparently) worked in an adjacent office and secured my ticket for the game.

We made a weekend of it , and got chased out of The Murderers Arms on the Friday night for singing ' Brian Deane and Tony Agana, bibbly bobberly boo'.

It was a bit cramped in that away corner as I remember.
 
Man Utd in the premiership year, we sang 90 minutes straight in a dull old Trafford. Luton Shelton ran their defence all over but just couldn't score, to be honest if VAR was around then he'd probably have won us a penalty or two.

Further to this I've just re-watched the highlights - definite penalty on Luton Shelton!

Normally with both sets of Fans in that end there would be a section left empty for segregation

For this game Norwich sold us the Tickets, thats where we were ....... bedlam when our second went in to make it 2-2

Often gone home proud but never happy when losing.

This was the game I would have chosen.

Blackwell always used the phrase that he was 'playing to his teams strengths' to justify his style of football i.e. I would play a passing game if only I had a squad of players that could pass the ball. Speedo came in and blow me , it turns out those exact same players COULD pass the ball!!

I always thought that it was Speed's first game in charge, or maybe his first home game??
