There's probably some better than Naughton - there are certainly a lot worse.

We might be Prem, but as the old song goes "we don't have a barrel of money" even now.

Compromises have to be made with certain positions and we could do a lot worse than signing Kyle Naughton.

One of the compromises (for me) is RWB with the majority needed up top (two signings for me) as we NEED to score goals to even have a chance to stay in the division.

UTB

Lets be honest here if he wasn’t an ex blade nobody would want to sign him. Same goes for jagielka. I’m sorry but there’s no time for sentiment here we need to get a squad together that is capable of staying up and stop living in the past regarding ex players.

Not true on the Jags front. Capped 40 times by England, captained England. Club captain at Everton with over 350 premier League appearances.

You saw John Terry's class last season for Villa he was a step above.

Am I in some sort of parallel universe where Kyle Naughton wasn’t Swansea’s reserve right back last season? Their fans would’ve drove him to us had they not released him.

No. Thank. You.

Means nothing, Swansea don't play W backs to start with and don't have Wilder as manager. Maybe you think we can sign 9 £15m players?

I think you are - he’s got a year left on his contract and played 38 times last year.

Of course it fucking matters.

And not at all, just happen to think we can do better than Swansea’s reserve players thanks.

Wilder has made a very successful career by signing other clubs reserves/unwanted players. I thought by now even the most astute of our fans like yourself would have accepted this now.

And none of which were at right back. Making him a reserve in that position, which is his position. He played nearly all of those games at centre back or left back, we can’t play right footers at left wing back.

If he’d never played for United this wouldn’t even be mentioned, rightly fucking so.

Naughton started 31 league games and played about as many times at LB as he did RB.
He might’ve played about 3 games there when Conor Roberts played elsewhere. Roberts absolutely undoubtedly their first choice right back. Now HIM I’d be interested in.

Did he take any reserve league one players up to the Championship with him?

Think about that then get back to me.

It looks like he played RB a fair bit at the start of the season, but ended the season with a prolonged run at LB.

Completely fucking irrelevant.

I think he played LB as a requirement because Declan John is crap and Olsson was injured from Decembers onwards

How? It’s literally exactly the same thing just a level further up.

Not when Wilder is involved it's not. Duffy was training with the kids at Brum, now he's training for Anfield.

He’d just been voted in the team of the season for League One and been promoted for crying out loud.

... when we were in League One.
And he wasn’t surplus either, they wanted him but he wanted to come here.

Look pal all i'm saying is Wilder has turned misfits into stars time and time again, you cannot argue with that. So if Wilder signs Naughton I back Wilders view not yours. We need 9 players with a small budget for the level we are at. If my interpretaion of what Wilder has said is correct we are going to spend the money on 3-4 players that will slot into the 1st team at this level so brace yourself for 4 or 5 signings that underwhelm you such as Naughton (that i'm happy will turn into good squad additions).

I'm not sure about Naughton but he's still only 30, his style of play suits us and if Wilder signs him I think he will be good enough (I know that is some people's mantra but I think the evidence is there in this case).

Wilder wouldn’t sign him, so we won’t need to worry about that. Even as squad players we can aim higher than Naughton.

Andy Yiadom would be a better bet than Naughton. Swansea probably thought so too when they tried to sign him in the PL. He'd probably be dependent on selling Baldock though due to the fee.

Too lightweight. Not good enough for us. We need athletic, strong players. Not pussies.
