We were having a chat at work today about Golden Goals/Sudden Death in cup competitions in the sense of going to extra time and 1st goal wins. I believe it was fazed out around 2004 possibly 2002 World Cup. I think it came in 1993 from memory.

I was trying to think of have we ever scored a Golden Goal in extra time, apart from the Paul Peschisolido goal vs Forest in the Playoffs are there any others people can think of?

Answers on a postcard or in the thread below the more unique the better, we must have scored more than one?

Thought Golden / Silver goals were only used in UEFA / FIFA competitions? As far as I know United have never been involved in one. The Peschisolido goal definitely wasn't a golden goal, in fact it wasn't even the last (or penultimate!) goal in that game!

Didn't Des Walker head into his own net after Pesches wonder goal?

I don’t think we’ve ever won by Golden goal.

Ex-Blade Traianos Dellas did score a ‘Silver Goal’ winner for Greece in their Euro 2004 semi final though.

Now I think of it. it wasn't Golden goal in the true sense was "silver goal" I cant remember any golden goal winners in extra time.

They didn't concede any goals* which went some way.

*Think they might have conceded 1 the whole comp.

Nah they conceded a few, I think they may have lost a game in the group stage. They may have gone through the knockouts without conceding though. One-nilling their way to victory!

Just checked and you're correct. 1-0'd all their knockout games, but were pretty fortunate in the group.

On a separate note, how the f**k did Greece manage to win the Euro's???

Probably the same reason Russia got to the quarters in last years WC (in Russia), France won the 2000 Euros (in France) and England won the 1966 WC (in England). Oh, and Uruguay won the 1930 WC (in Uruguay), Italy won the 1934 WC (in Italy), West Germany in 1974, Argentina in 1978 etc. etc.

I see a pattern emerging...

Why, do they consider Portugal a home away from home?

Far too long for me to watch.
Have you got a link to a shorter version?

;-)
