Gareth Bale

Well it just shows that even media darlings like Harry Redknapp can be wrong. The lad was available for £2.5M-£3 Million last year.

Its true. He was distinctly average for Spurs at first and for a while held an unenviable record of never playing in a winning side there. The lad has obviously worked very hard at improving his game and its paid off.

I pay absolutely no attention to any transfer rumours because 99% of them are bollocks. Never believed this one, even when he wasnt in the picture at Spurs. As if we could have even afforded his wages!

Does anyone else think that people within the sport are going a bit too far with how good Bale is? I admit he is in great form at the moment and was unplayable last night, but this morning on Sky Sports News I heard Ricky Villa saying he was probably the second best left footed player in the game, behind the one and only Lionel Messi, Is Bale really that good to be even in the same sentence as Messi?

I think he has a lot of work to do and needs to keep playing as he is more consistently to be even considered to be one of the best in the world. I also keep hearing that Maicon is probably the best Right Back in the world, he maybe good going forward but I wouldn't consider him the best defensive right back in the world.

I think most people see Bale as what he is.....an exceptionally good young player with massive potential, who is improving all the time. There is absolutely no doubt that he can become world class because he puts in those types of performances regularly now. Being mentioned in the same breath as Messi is definately premature yes. He has a lot more to prove yet but he could become one of the best players in this country and Europe definately.

I hope he does, just hope he doesn't get too big for his boots and when the big teams start sniffing he kicks up a fuss. I hope he is sensible and sticks with spurs, like someone said in a different thread, its a shame he is not english :D

I didn't believe this one when it first started solely because Robbie has what might be called form when it comes to making up very credible rumours. In other words, he's a lying weasel, but a very convincing one.:D

Hey, my original rumour said he was seen at the Lane today, did anyone mention which one ;)
Also if you note, I didn't say he was coming to us.... just that he would be a good signing :D haha

But yeah, I am a weasel :D

It wouldn't surprise me if he ended at Man U, although Giggs is playing out wide less these days, Bale on his current form looks to be a ready made replacement for him.

As someone said above, it's interesting to look at this thread with the benefit of a years' hindsight. my favourite bit is this from last November:

Would be well happy with that although with Naysmith a week or so away,

And of course Naysmith returned in April.

Williamson is this year's Naysmith, I'll wager.

I bet you're the life and soul of any party (assuming that you ever get invited to one!)?

You've hit the nail on the head, I'm a recluse an don't get invited to anything.

Meanwhile, you're at the party, surrounded by an adoring crowd, telling Gareth Bale jokes.

Hasn't he also said he'll happily play golf for the next 3 years unless they buy his contract out after ZZ said "if I had a 4th sub I wouldn't have fetched him on"?

Shit house.

Marca have implied that, but he's not said anything of the sort as far as I'm aware.

I've obviously only seen captions and copied from there. I was watching the game earlier today over here and Real were awful. I missed the goals but Betis were the better side. They should have had more. Lots of empty seats too. With them having nowt to play for it probably stands to reason, mind.

Athletico, Real and Barca are all in a bit of pickle at the minute to be honest - they all need to do some major rebuilding.

As for Bale, he didn't even make it on the pitch today - God knows what his future holds; Real obviously want rid, but who could afford to pay that salary, baring in mind his injury record?

300k a week isn't it? I mentioned it to the Mrs when I saw him sat on the bench. He's put himself (or his agent or the club) in a position where he's trapped unless he takes a pay-cut (poor poor guy). Same with Sanchez at Man U.

£300k per week after tax. €600k gross (€30,000,000 per year). Ridiculous.

I heard he was on €600k, so yeah, it's a pretty unworkable situation.

But who's to blame? Not the player, surely? The club are losing 600k a week on someone who isn't playing. Clearly it was a signing meant to excite fans at a time when Bale was white-hot property.

Imagine being a team-mate playing week in week out on less money and he's doing fuck all? Unworkable is an understatement.

I agree; the club offered the contract: they can only blame themselves for the situation.
