I can imagine we will be fishing around this list of players come June... Very interested to see who we can snap up for free or from their club's respective transfer list... Watch this space ;)

First and foremost will be character. No last pay day players, only those who will fit the character (and alcohol tolerance levels) of the current group. In Wilder we trust.

Both injury prone

Apart from extortionate wages, I'm guessing that both would be missing for large parts of the season

No from me and I suspect a no from the club

Didsy was old and injury-prone..before CW and AK got their hands on him.

The problem with Carroll is that he's also an alcoholic and a prized cunt with a very high opinion of himself. If he was half the player he thinks he is, he'd be at a top 6 club playing week in week out.

Welbeck hasn't managed to keep himself fit for a full season in his entire career. Physically, he isn't upto it.

The last thing we need to do is bring in players who will use us as a stepping stone to a "better" club. Fulham tried that last season & now they're royally fucked with players who couldn't give a toss about the club, on huge contracts who nobody in their right mind will take from them.

Sensible recruitment, don't break the bank & stick to the ethos that's got us to the premier league in the first place is the way to go.

If you say so Kev. :-)

Seriously, I wouldn't consider Carroll or Welbeck, just sayin age shouldn't be a big issue if they can do a job

:D I get that entirely but their age isn't the issue. We want players here who want to be at Sheffield United, not because the player is trying to put themselves in the window for the likes of Everton to pick up at a later date for bigger wages.

I'd be quite happy for us to pick up a 30 year old striker because he buys into the Blades ethos & CWAK's master plan & offers us something different to what we already have.

Those on the way up...not the way down.

So I doubt Wilder will be paying too much attention to players released from premier league clubs.
Specific targets who are young (Chelsea fringe players) and approaching the end of their deal is another matter

Once again, using McGoldrick as an example, I doubt anyone would have said he was "on the way up" at Ipswich. Hadn't he been released?

CW and our backroom team seem to have the ability to find potential where others may miss it, regardless of age.

Personally I doubt if McG or Sharp will have enough to be first choice next season, but I would love to be proved wrong.

And I agree, the response of many to his arrival was very underwhelming. And I doubt even Wilder expected him to have the impact he has made!
But we are in a position now to get the players we talked of this time last season. To raid clubs like ours were in last season, and invest in their best players.

McGoldrick will have a value now, but at his age no amount of talent will make at any more than what we have perhaps invested in him for the past 12 months....£500k??

Couldn't have worded it any better. We got burnt signing has been big names once before and ended up saddled with a load of ageing mercenaries that couldn't give a fuck about the club so long as they get paid. I'd sooner sign some promising youngsters on loan from top 6 clubs; Abraham, Sturridge, Welbeck etc all had loan spells at bottom half PL clubs in which they made names for themselves and this is what we should look for.

If we are talking about old, past-it strikers, I'd rather go for Crouch than Carroll or Welbeck. Alan Knill would be in his element thinking up new set piece routines that we could try and Crouchy seems a good character that'd fit in well.

The diffrence with McGoldrick is, and please correct me if this is wrong, that he came to CW and asked for a trial. He wanted to prove his worth to us rather than coming along for a final pay day.

If anyone thinks that CW can go on bringing in injury prone players and suddenly turn them into 40 game a season players, then HRH was right when he labelled him the Messiah

Only one 'old' Prem I'd touch - James Milner.

Top player who has NEVER had an agent. All his deals done via the PFA.
Fantastic role model.

I love Hamez Milner too but I don't see a role for him in our setup.

that and not driving Nottingham - Ipswich everyday...

Andy Carroll only plays 1 game a season. Danny wellbeck would be a very good signing, however I’d imagine his wages would be far too high

I would love it if Milner did come to the Lane, but I expect Klopp to give him one more season. Not out of gratitude, but because he’s such a model pro for all their youngsters. He is also flexible, adaptable and still successful at the very top level. He is exactly the type of player any club would want. An honest, hard working Yorkshire lad.

I agree. The consummate professional and still looks fit as a Butcher's Dog.
International experience to boot for younger players to learn from.Versatile player that can change a game either helping protect the back three or going forward and creating chances. Got goals in him too. What's not to like?
