Good Luck Paul Coutts

Gutted the holy trinity has finally been broken up. Definitely been one of my favourite United players of the past decade (as most of the current squad are to be fair!) and by all accounts seems like a really genuine bloke. It'll be weird to no longer see him in a Blades shirt, but I hope a piece of us always stays with him and I'll certainly be looking out for him next season. Once a blade always a blade!

Peng Ting.

Gutted but best for both and I hope like when he went from Derby to us, he gets a proper run with a proper footballing team to get him back up to speed.

Pompey could be a good fit for him.One of my favourite Sheffield United footballers ever.

For the period before that twat fucked his leg up he was simply imperious. He was never going to get it back after that. The injury and recuperation time made that obvious and it was confirmed when he did return and what we then saw wasn't going to cut it. Absolute tragedy for a player of his skill, but as ever with Wilder there is no room for sentiment. If you ever have the misfortune to look into his eyes (when sober) you might realise that. He will be remembered very fondly and not just as a transient footnote in our history. GLTTL, hope he got a good bonus.

All the best to Couttsy...pivotal in the previous 2 seasons then the leg break effectively ended his blades career.

Can see him popping up down the road at Oakwell...

One of the original Holy Trinity and a real Rolls Royce as a deep lying central midfielder. On song as one of a central midfield three he really was different gravy and could run the show in centre midfield. One touch passing, long range passing, bite in the tackle he had it all.

What a class footballer. If someone sticks him in the base of a central midfield three they can build a team around him. He’s an Italian “direttore”.

One of the most sincere GLTTL’s you will ever get. Gutted.

Was always gonna happen one day :(.

Real pity that his Blades career really kinda fizzled out at a time when success on the pitch was beyond amazeballs !!

To say I’m gutted about this would be a huge understatement.

A fit and ready Coutts would have been a tremendous asset to us in the PL. Of that I have NO doubt. But the question that we have all asked is does that guy still exist ?

Wilder has given us the only answer that is of any relevance, and that matters.

All that remains to be said is that Coutts was and is one of the most influential players I have ever seen pull on a Blades shirt. I will follow his career with interest and hope he can manage to get back to his mercurial best.

Wherever that may be, I for one would gladly pay to watch :)

Good luck fella.

He's now got 30k+ fans in Sheffield who will follow and support his career where ever he goes. I'll follow his career with interest too.

One of the saddest releases in many, many years. I agree that a fully fit Couttsy would have been tremendously important in the Prem. He deserved that shot too.

Best Inited midfielder I’ve seen just before his injury.
Just a little gutted to see him leave, I hope he settles wherever he ends up and regains that form. My favourite player under Wilder

The Holy Trinity was a joy to watch, truly. 3 more contrasting yet complimentary players I have rarely seen and certainly not for us.

How ironic that all that was ended by a Burton fucking Albion being managed by the bloke who brought Coutts to us in the first place. Fate can be a bitch can't it.

Good luck Paul. You gave us a season and a bit of pure class. Hopefully the Roller will be back on the road again soon.

Can't disagree with a word of that. Coutts at his best was a masterclass in how to play football. Just before his injury he was playing like a Premiership player, so it's a disgrace that he'll never get the chance to play at this level. You're right, about as complete a midfielder as we'll see in a Blades shirt. Top man PC.

No player has ever won me around as much as Coutts.

A significant driver in one of the most enjoyable seasons in my 40 plus years of supporting The Blades, and the following year until injury.

We will talk about this period for decades to come, and Coutts was part of that rebirth.

He will be sadly missed. :(

If we think we've been on an incredible journey then consider the one Paul Coutts has been on since joining the Blades.

From being a target of the boo boys and being almost discarded by our new manager Chris Wilder to becoming an integral part of that record breaking promotion team Paul Coutts has displayed a faultless level of professionalism.

To then have that cruel leg break that seemed forever to heal and come back to find the 'team had moved on' must have been gut wrenching. Once again he remained loyal to the overall cause.

His performance at Hillsborough and the Blades continually singing his name on that September afternoon will always be my best memory.

Thanks to you alco I now don’t need to write much as this was exactly my thoughts, gutted and I can’t stand that coward Sordell, what a cunt!

I’ve never rated Coutts as highly as most as he was shocking under Clough and Adkins and he should thank Wilder for saving his career. But he had a great season in the League One title winning season so I wish him the best in the next stage of his career.

Thankyou for all the good performances you have gave to us. Last season he was my player of the season until he got injured. All the very best paul

I reckon he deserves a place on the S24SU background tbh

Bert's appraisal of his United career:

One third very good, one third injured and one third not very good.

DBs appraisal of Bert (and YesB) is that being injured can’t be assessed, but being BOTH very good AND not very good might, just might, not all be down to the player in question !

Just a thought !!

I ploughed a lonely furrow before Wilder came ,many couldn't stand him but a few of us took abuse for seeing what a great player he had the potential to be.
Genuinely gutted as I think John Fleck will be too.
I bet he doesn't go to Hull under that fucking useless wanker anyway.

You can add a few more than JF to that list.

The esteem his peers held for him is genuinely palpable.

Maybe it’s because I’m a bit eeemosh atm, but I’m not sure we have seen the end of this particular chapter.

Currie, Woodward, Hagan, Joe Shaw, Needham...... and Coutts?

Have you been drinking?

As good as the other 5 were, did any of them have Alcoblade showing his arse on the Town Hall steps eh?
The defence rests . . .

An integral part of the biggest turn around this club has seen in many a year. Top player for me.
GLTTL.
