I had a hernia operation many years ago under general anaesthetic.

When I came round post-surgery they’d put a plastic bracelet round my wrist with my name and “RIH” (right inguinal hernia) written on it. My eyesight was a bit blurry and I read it as “RIP”...

I think it says everything you need to know about Coutts’s readiness that the guy in his position has been needing an operation for 4/5 months and yet Coutts hasn’t started once in that period. It’s probably an indication too that he’ll be moving on in the summer.

I’ve got a hernia atm it’s ‘awkward’ because I’m a runner so you just have to deal with it mentally and physically I’d imagine that once sorted he may be even better next season.
