How long ago does this feel now?!

I remember the outrage from some on here. The more level-headed amongst us knew that the result was a blessing in disguise. We didn’t need or want the distractions of a cup run. The fact we’ve been promoted and I haven’t seen this day mentioned on here in a while proves that.

Although Wilder came out in the press with some strong criticism for the players who played that day, I genuinely believe he wasn’t as bothered behind the scenes.

So, who agrees that the “worst result in our entire history” was one of the better ones of the season?

I think my point was that it disrespected the Cup and that was disappointing. In hindsight, of course, it may have helped us.

And on the plus side, I was impressed by the Barnet team and fans and like to take an interest in how they are getting on now.

I don't think Wilder wanted to lose the Barnet game. I think we wanted to win it without getting hurt. We're all about harassing players and getting tackles in and that's the only game I've seen under Wilder where players were standing off and letting players close by have time on the ball. Absolutely no chance that wasn't by instruction.

The team on the pitch should've won it anyway, I'm just not buying that we didn't sacrifice our principles and take it easy that night. I also cared more about the wasted evening than I did about the result or the cup itself. I really resent the fact that clubs can't come out and say that they aren't bothered about the cup when a bit of warning that they really don't would save us fans some time and money.

It’s all bollocks mate, we’d have done the double.

Wilder can only save his job now by doing the treble this season.

Getting promotion to the Premier League may well have something to do with CW's decision to field his Reserve team yesterday. For Barnet this game represented maybe one of the most important games in their history, and their players responded to the task of playing like a team determined to make their mark on their own piece of history. The only significance for us was the opportunity for CW to see which (if any) of his reserves might be worthy of inclusion in the match-day squad, and (more importantly) resting his over-stretched 11 (unchanged but for the enforced change re Basham) and avoiding injuries.
He probably concluded that Coutts was the only one currently worthy of a place in the squad. He possibly also concluded that Lundstram and Washington are never likely to be.

If I'd bothered to go to that reserve game I might have been a little less than happy right now, but the fact I didn't and CW can pick a full-strength 11 for the next match; that we don't have a key player injured (unlike the Wendy who went in with a full-strength team and now face a replay); that we are in with great chance of auto promotion; that our goal-difference has improved significantly in only 3 matches etc... means that - YES - I'm very happy!!

In January - someone set up a Thread "PLAY-OFFS"

Can't agree with this Thread Title at all...... chill out folks; sit back and enjoy the ride. Leave the angst till next season when we will no longer be so obviously top 6 quality but have to concentrate on surviving our 1st season back in the Prem.

It makes the game vs Worcester now feel to coin the Green Day song '2,000 light years away'....

Nov 2015.. Blades mid table league 1, Worcester National North so just League 2 and the Conference seperating us.

Fast forward to now... Blades into the Prem... Worcester floundering still homeless in the Midland Combination Premier at Step 9 of the great football pyramid.. so that will be Championship, L1, L2, Conf, Nat North, Southern Prem, Southern League West/Midland div.. 7 divisions difference.


Mad...but what a job Chris Wilder has done turning the Blades round and i'm glad to have been on here experiencing it with you all.

the teams lost 2 league games in 2019

dont think any one game like villa away affected this

we kept a high level of consistency throughout , not that some let on

leeds have lost 8 in the same period , , but their fans believed throughout theyd do it

we are talking about a team that finished below Harrogate Town Bromley & Gateshead after the fa cup game they drew with carsalthon town & lost to braintree town 2 weeks later

i was upset at the performance, because we are used to a certain level & the 1st half we were dreadful. the tackle that gave penalty away was like the titanic you could see disaster coming but couldn't stop it. really we only tested a non league defence twice. a striker that only scored 12 goals rip us apart

It was a terrible result at the time, and remains one today. Same as when we lost to Colchester when we were promoted in 2006.

A Championship team should not lose at home to a mid table National League side.
