Not that impressed by them today to be honest.

A couple of long rangers and Blackburn pushed them.

I thought Bell was decent for Blackburn. Wonder if Wilder still likes Lenihan. Dack has done well with 18 goals.

By "Blackburn pushed them" do you actually mean "Blackburn had one shot on target in 94 minutes", or were you watching the wrong game?
 
I've disliked their "gamesmanship" at times but they're a great side to watch for the most part. We've achieved so much more than I thought was even realistic that I don't care if we "only" finish second. At the very least we'll have pushed them to the last game.

Just as well there was only one if every shot that's on target against you ends up in the goal ;)

Fair point but they had a lot of ball down your right and when Chapman came on he was getting change out of Aarans.

All the goals were 1 in 20 strikes for both teams. Seldom do you get three long rangers as the only goals. I tuned in expecting you to carve them open more. In the last ten you had Krul dawdling taking goal kicks to waste time. A win’s a win and congrats on promotion. I’ve just seen you play better. I think you’ll need to play better away at Villa to take the title. I think you will. A point will do it.

Really? That's funny.... because on 19th April, against Sheffield Wednesday, precisely the same two players scored both our goals from outside the box.

And on April 10th against Reading Ben Godfrey scored from outside the box too.

And on 6th April Stiepermann scored another from outside the box

And on 30th March our only goal in the win against Middlesbrough was from outside the box.

I don't suppose it could be that we're quite good at scoring goals from outside the box, when teams come up against the league leaders and decide they are happy to park the bus could it? Nah, I suppose you are right and we are just really really lucky, almost every week. That must be the case because we don't score enough tap ins :eek:

Feel free to help us choose our goal of the season from the following 19.... don't worry, only 13 of them are long range :rolleyes:

I suppose it ultimately depends on how Villa set up against you.

Seem to have some how struck a raw nerve.

I merely pointed out the likelihood of scoring goals from distance is far less than those in the penalty area. It's quite rare for a game to feature three shots from outside the penalty area that are the only goals.

I assume your pattern of play is more than just hoping someone can bang one in from 25 yards. I expected to see more of that. I was disappointed with what I saw. I expected you to carve them open more and you didn't.

Having higher expectations of the Champions elect isn't an insult, it's a compliment!

May I remind you that as much as I like Billy Sharp (I like him), the top goalscorer in the country is Teemu Pukki, who scores the vast majority of his goals from close range (and not one single penalty).

And may I remind you that as much as I respect this Sheffield United team (organised and hard working, good team spirit, good coach, worthy of respect), we've scored 15 more goals than you this season and more than any other team in the country. So perhaps the issue isn't that we supposedly get lucky scoring more than anybody else from long range, but rather that Sheffield United and every other team in this league perhaps just don't have as many players capable of doing the same.

We've scored two long range goals from players who have been scoring from long range all season, next you will be saying that Frank Lampard was lucky to have scored 274 career goals considering he scored probably the majority from range.

The issue that I have is that whilst I'm happy to accept that Sheffield United deserve promotion..... it seems that there are quite a lot of Sheffield United fans who seem to think that we're just really lucky (every week, even now after 13 in a row undefeated) and aren't worthy of ours.... and you epitomize one of those. Which I find a frankly ludicrous proposition and one that could only be arrived at with a heavy dose of utter bitterness from somewhere. I suppose it could be complete ignorance, which is a possibility considering you've questioned our ability to score from close range.... when we own Teemu fucking Pukki (Jesus Christ on a bike mate!).

We've scored 91 goals.... no type of goal feels "rare" in our side. You don't score 91 goals with a game plan which revolves around just feeding a poacher.... obviously.... subtract Pukki's 28 goals from 91 and you are left with a lot of goals from midfield. We've only scored 1 penalty all season, we're shit at scoring from corners. Do the math.

What is it? Still hung up about the Maddison thing? If so... why? Give you 3 points from that game last season and you are still not top 6. Or just thick?

I've got no issue with Norwich this season. Though you seem to have taken it that way. Both the Blades and Canaries have done very similar jobs, selling prized assets to fund an unfancied promotion change. I'd rather the top three go up as we've been so far ahead of the rest, it would be a travesty for a Derby for instance to muscle in.

Norwich have scored freely, more than all as you state. Sheffield United have mastered teams defensively whilst still being an offensive team. Best goals against in the division, best clean sheets in the division and this year in Europe and best goal difference in the league. Entertaining for both fans and brilliant for the league.

My comments are about one game and Pukki has done excellently, rightly top scorer. So has Billy Sharp for us, until the weekend more goals per minute than Abraham.

My point was that you didn't perform in a way I expected and you've supported that. Pukki normally scores from close in. It didn't happen at the weekend. It is rare to see 3 long range goals as the only goals. That is statistically proven even if Norwich have a good goal of the season reel of them. Pukki scoring so highly shows the importance and frequency of goals closer in. You found another way to win. Good for you. It just wasn't how I expected to see you play on that occasion.

I'm off to celebrate my team's victory. I suggest you do the same. And may the best team win the championship this weekend. Though the real prize is already in the bag for both. Best of luck for next season.
 
Villa have nothing to play for. BUT they had nothing to play for yesterday either but they gave a very good account of themselves against the Weeds fuckwits.

They will beat Norwich next week and we will thump Stoke. Another bit of polishing on its way.

I didn't really dislike Norwich in fact I had completely forgotten they existed until I started seeing essays written about them as above. Is this a Blades forum or what?
 
We will go for the win at Stoke, of that I have no doubt.
I just hope Villa get lucky and beat Norwich.

Champagneblade has done a great job of responding to your posts without rising to your gloating. well done, your team got promoted. so did ours. maybe you weren't as impressive in one game as CB expected you to be, maybe you should be ok with that instead of feeling the need to leap to the defence of your megastar team that managed to take a whopping o n e point of us this season.
