We sold Brooks.

That’s what happens when you sell when you need to and invest the money wisely.

Not quite as pithy, but way more accurate.

well said, brooks is an outstanding talent but would we be going up with him here, and without egan and norwood, im not so sure

We would have been up 4 matches ago if we`d kept him ! Now worth 40 mill

Brighton came knocking for JOC we kept him AND TODAY WE REAP THE BENEFITS

Brooks didn't want to play for us anymore. Today we had 11 plus 2 players on the pitch who wanted to play for us.
That's it.

and others on the bench too, let us not forget the contributions of stearman and cranie when called upon, others will get the plaudits but those two have been immense when called upon

But we wouldn’t have Egan, Norwood, Hendo, Dowell, Madine and Hogan so I don’t agree. They were key in our success and why we moved on from last season. An improved first team and a much stronger squad.
Also I think it’s a stretch to assume Wilder would have had Brooks starting every week. Wilder seems to like consistency and players he can trust 100% and that doesn’t always mesh well with onboarding youngsters.

Whichever way you cut it, we sold our most expensive asset and got promoted due to good quality signings.

Brooks or no Brooks money we've held on to JOC and Fleck since we brought them in and I can't believe for a second that we haven't had plenty of people ask for a price.

It's always disappointing to see exciting players go but that's part of football. Even Man U sold Ronaldo when circumstance dictated. All I've ever cared about is whether the first team as a whole moves forward and, under Wilder, every transfer window has seen us move forward.

The loan signings like Hogan have been spot on. Not had the greatest time here, but with Sharp out on a big game like today the move paid dividends. Too many times I've seen us go into big games lacking a real goal threat, finally we were well prepared.

A guy sitting next to me today summed it up...blades fans are pessimists pigs fans are (misguided) optimists. FFS just enjoy this is the best Blades team for a long long time..and ive been supporting 58 years

are they our players officially, right ?

They were players who have made solid contributions to pur run in.

They will all have come at significant costs in terms of loan fees/wages.

We don't have a magic money tree.

The funds from the Brooks sale will have at least in part contributed to this budget.

Whilst Brooks was perhaps our most talented player last season, I don't think you can say he was the best.

I appreciate you didn't say he was, just linking it back to the thread title.

Agreed, although the OP said players, and I think if we listed the top player we didn’t want to leave last season he’d be on there.
I think my issue with this is a.) it’s bollocks and b.) after getting promotion the OP opted to have a pop at the board who actually have done very well since appointing Wilder. To try and dredge this incorrect nonsense up to have a pop at the club was asking to be countered.
We are always likely to lose our top talent if a good offer comes in, as are 99% of clubs. What we’ve not done before is use the money wisely. Hopefully, and looking at recent evidence, this has changed.
