I still don’t understand why little teams like Ipswich call us blunts what have we ever done to them it seems more and more fans of other clubs are starting to refer to us as blunts

Hi all

Town fan in peace. Always had a soft spot for you lot since a few of our lot bumped into a few of your lot after a London away game and we all got hammered, proper club Sheff U!

I popped on here to wish you the best of luck against us as we all want to lose and see you tip the scum for the league. Anyway, gotta say I'm a bit p1ssed off being called a little club from you, I could take it from Man U or Liverpool and the like but we have a superior history to you unless you count your pre war FA Cups.

One more thing as I just read a post saying we should have kept Mick McCarthy - most fans aren't that bothered about going down as at least we are off the Mick McCarthy sleep fest. We wanted our club back and we have it, it just means we have to start all over again.

Best wishes to all.

Understand your disappointment, and no, I wouldn't class Ipswich Town as a little club. All trophies count the same in the history of a football club, however, regardless of when they were won. I mean, the early 80s and the previous trophies you lot won will be ancient history soon...if they aren't already. Trophies are only one metric anyway. After Saturday I wish you well, and I hope relegation is a period of renewal for your club just like it has been at BDTBL.You wont find many with a nice word to say about Norwich City after the game at the Lane last season....

apologies for the 'little club' comments.. probably from some of the younger members who don't know your history mate ;)

Always liked Ipswich, John Walk, Gary Brazil, Paul Mariner, Kevin Beattie, George Burley. Franz Thissen was a fantastic player as was Arnold Muhren. Not happy that you are being relegated but sometimes you do need to take a few steps backwards to go forwards, Glad you feel that you have got your club back and I hope you bounce back quicker than it took us!

I was lucky enough to be the right age at the right time and was just at leaving school age in those heady times, the only real problem is that I never dreamed we would be anything but title challengers and my life has gone downhill somewhat ever since.

I don't really like the north but I do like Sheffield. Great club, great city and great people, plus I have a genuine dislike of Wednesday, oh and I like Pulp!

Is that magnet of a dive Harleys still going strong?

Gary Brazil - perennial bench warmer at Bramall Lane in the early 80's and later of Preston 'fame'.
Alan Brazil - frizzy-haired Scottish international of Ipswich top side of late 70's/early 80's

What a side that was around 1980-81. Loved watching that team on Match of the Day and of course Sportsnight and Midweeks Sports Special. Was great when you beat AZ Alkmaar over two legs to win the UEFA Cup in 1981. I can still probably name the whole team just about...

Paul Cooper
George Burley
Mick Mills
Terry Butcher
Kevin Beattie
John Wark
Frans Thyssen
Arnold Muhren
Eric Gates
Paul Mariner
Alan Brazil

With Kevin O'Callaghan on the bench.

Harleys is hardly a venue of choice. Come down the road a bit and go to the Red Deer, Red Lion, Nelson (Fannys), Beer Engine, Albion, Cremorne etc etc.

Alan Brazil - Great man and Ipswich loving, champagne quaffing functional alcoholic who will one day be the first person who will die of a condition that will in future be known as "Exploding"

By full time I was relatively grateful we got out only losing by one goal, we got mullered that day, Alan Kelly stopped it from being a rout.
Wouldn’t worry about it too much, Kevin Pressman has done it to us on a couple of occasions too

I keep getting distracted every 5 mins and have been doing all week. So excited, thinking about those league 1 promotion away trips. Watching goals and highlights over and over again.

I wish I could just fast forward to pub tomorrow!

Come on blades!!!

I went to both legs and had my first prostitute at the tender age of 15. Super times!

Not bad but Burley and Beattie were injured and Steve McCall and Russel Osman played. I met one of our subs in a pub a while back - Tommy Parkin, he is now a painter and decorator whilst Championship run of the mill players are millionaires. Kevin Beattie died recently skint.

Funny old game - I'm not overly keen on modern football, Sky TV have killed it.

I think it's probably a fairer assessment to class you as a provincial club - we fall into the category too, even though we are a City.

You'll find many positive things written about your club on this forum in past few days, but they are generally from the older fans who remember your old 1st division and European exploits.

To be fair, clubs like ours tend to be yoyo's and some of ours are on a high as to what our manager Wilder is doing.

Don't take the little club to heart - you should hear what some say about our own club at times ;)

As for tomorrow - I hope we smash you by half time, but after that wish you all the very best in L1. It's difficult to get out, but Rotherham bounced straight back, so I am sure you can. If you are still there Y2 or Y3, that's when the real shit happens as we found to our 6 year cost.

All the best.

Russell Osman of course!

While you were enjoying winning the UEFA Cup, we were 'enjoying' our imminent relegation to Division 4 courtesy of a last minute penalty miss against the mighty Walsall. Arguably the highest point in your history and the lowest in ours.

I missed the bit about Harleys, I know it's a bit rough around the edges but it's the sort of place I would use as a local if I was living there. My boy used to live in Sheffield and managed Champs for a while, I never liked that place.

No post was more deserving of a "like".

As for Mick Mc, I was talking to an Ipswich supporter in my local chippy a few weeks back (I knew him from many moons ago) and he was happier to go down than keep Mick in charge.
Had me thinking about our own Hoofy Blackwell. Nothing was worse than watching his anti-football and whatever has befallen us since, it was worth seeing the useless twat shown the door.

Thanks for the good wishes, obviously hope we win tomorrow and win the league, stopping Norwich on the way but genuinely respect Ipswich. As I posted earlier you are not a 'little' club at all, I grew up watching you win in Europe and thought you were unlucky not to win the title at least once in that Liverpool dominated era. Good luck next season and hope to meet you in the cup again, love the away end view at your place and the ground generally.

Please tell me that was at the away leg...
