Media Bias

I don't care what is said in the press. That Sky show featuring all the hacks on Sunday mornings proves they don't know jack about jack shit.

However if there is a smugger twat amongst the entire press corps then Henry Fucking Winter....... his name is Oliver Holt.
Henry Winter gets a Twat award just for being Jack Wheelchairs Agent-ish

Why would anyone listen to talksport ?
The whole station is centred around London's Premier League clubs with an occasional discussion about Man Utd, City and Liverpool

I used to have it on in the car sometimes and the impression I got was
All Southern clubs are ok even if not very good
Northern clubs other than those three are all crap and are just there to belittle and take the piss out of

Don't listen anymore

I was listening to Talk Sport yesterday driving home. They were running through their 'any other business' segment where they run down what is happening in sport that they may not have spoken about so far on the show. They got to the 'football league' and Adrian Durham says something like "Norwich City will clinch the title if Leeds fail to win their remaining games, Sheffield United are also involved." What? Firstly, that's incorrect. Second, we're "also involved" ??! Did anyone else hear this? I almost came off the road it made me so mad.

I try to enjoy it. It’s the same silly cunts who spent 9 months ignoring what Leicester we’re doing.

Same in all the media, seems like we're the invisible team. On Monday The Guardian and Times had full articles on the Leeds game (they'd obviously both sent reporters to cover it). We were footnotes (literally a paragraph) in the roundup of other games!

Over the weekend The Times ran two stories. One from Henry Winter titled "Why Premier League needs Leeds United", which is an entire article swooning over Leeds, that doesn't even mention us, included the paragraph:

The second from Rod Liddle, "They managed to lose at home against Wigan, but Leeds still get my vote to finish second", at least we got a mention in that article: he predicted us to lose in the play off final against Villa (which could still happen of course).

TBH, I hope it stays like this until things are confirmed. All the Leeds fans commenting under the above articles were saying it was the kiss of death (before they played over the weekend).

Personally this is the way I like it.

Being under the radar, or at least not being the main focus, suits us imho.

Hi Fact Fans! I read last week that Oliver Holt is actually Emily Bishop's son.

I thought Oliver Holt used to have a soft spot for us?

Maybe he just dislikes West Ham but he was one of the few journalists in the media that nailed his colours to the mast in support of us during the Tevez affair.

Think he also attended a Sheffield derby at the Lane a few years back and he was shocked/ impressed at how hostile and noisy the atmosphere was. Said some nice words about the Sheffield derby being one of the biggest in England and needs to be back in the Premier League.

I’m going to take up for talksport here ,
I was out the back having a beer , doing a bit of painting on Monday, our game was there main game and there base , then they went all around the country to get reports from rest of games ,
they where mightily impressed by our display , full of praise for our players , Duffy in particular was singled out , one of the guys ( can’t remember therenames ) said he’d recommended Duffy to several championship clubs about 5 years ago , and no one took him up on his advice.
Full of praise for our club , our teams and the noise of our fans
Just a pity there following program about the championship was full of shit
About All the big clubs in the league , the massive fan base all they’ve won etc etc etc
Leeds , Villa , Forest ( due to them winning in Europe) the pigs WBA , and then little old Sheffield United who really shouldn’t be there , that tanned fucker who used to own palarse and that Danny bloke wankers

Holt helped write Warnock’s autobiography around 2007 and so will have seen the eye of the Wet Sham storm.

(Some stinking mistakes in there like De Vogt as a full back...)

1/ Talksport deliberately encourages controversial opinions to get people to talk about the show.
2/ There has been loads of positive media coverage of the Blades this season.

I was reading this article in the Guardian yesterday about who man u fans want to win the league. Almost all of them have a whinge about the media being biased in favour of Liverpool:
https://www.theguardian.com/footbal...fans-city-liverpool-premier-league-preference

It's bizarre. Seems like every clubs' fans have a massive chip on their shoulder when it come to this type of thing.

Think s24su is the only thing bias , bias towards the media haven’t we been on TV every other week hasn’t Colin Murray banged in on about us and there’s been plenty of newspaper reports

What do people want a special edition 100 page pull out in the daily mirror about dem blades

I do love the fact that we have 'a thing'.

If we go up there'll be Lineker and Shearer discussing how we have attacking centre backs.

Initial pride will dissipate though as they will talk as if our time outside the Prem didn't exist and that it's a new thing despite next year being the 4th season we've been at it.

I'd love it if we won the league though. Beat Ipswich, Norwich match or worse. We beat Stoke and they lose to Villa. What I'd like is that we had 4 months of how Leeds were winning the league then 4 months of how Norwich were going to win it, then in the final furlong after being under the radar for what seems like all season relative to the consistency we've shown, we nick it. Now, that would be extremely satisfying.

I was listening to talksport earlier this season. No idea who the presenters were but the conversation went like this

"Sheffield United are doing well this year "

"Yes...who's the manager there again?"

"Erm....is it Kevin Blackwell?"

"Yes that's it"

Completely agree it would be amazing to snatch the title at the death. One possible issue as a result might be keeping predators at bay for a Manager who had won 3 different leagues in 4 years. We might still have that problem as runners up of course, but the media attention would be magnified significantly should we nick it.

Don't let this worry you guys

When we go up , the media will treat us as third class unwanted interlopers into their elitist money driven bubble.

they wont know our players names ,even if we do get a fleeting mention for beating Man Utd. the story will be all about Man Utd. and how they will bounce back

Nothing will change

Yes

I feel better now, I just read the Karel Poborsky interview on the Guardian and he said this:
“I went to Ferguson and explained that I wanted to play and he found me three or four clubs in England. Small clubs, like Leeds. But I got an offer from Benfica and left for Lisbon in January 1998. After six months, I was voted as the best player in Portugal but still now, my heart beats for Manchester United.” Puts it all into perspective really.

I was listening to it on the way home too. They’d already spoken about us earlier in the programme, which is why it wasn’t in ‘any other business’. Danny Kelly’s comment was a reference to what they’d already said earlier, in a segment where they have 30 seconds to talk about something they hadn’t already covered.

I, for one, don't mind Utd not being the main focus of the media's attention in the Champ, or being underdogs to go up.

As for TalkSport, there are very few presenters and pundits on there whose opinion I respect. In fact, I would limit it to only Danny Kelly, Simon Jordan and Bob Mills. The rest are either thick, uninformed or preoccupied with their previous clubs and the top of the Prem.

there you have it then, can't stand Danny Kelly, his southern bias is shockingly bad, usually refers to us as "Sheffield".....

I don't listen to Talksport, but Danny Kelly always seemed to have a soft spot for us when he had that show on BT Sport.

Talksport's a pile of shit.

At the end of every sentence they play an advert. Money grabbing bastards

Post of the Day mate!

The advert that really annoys me is the SELCO, ITS WHERE THE TRADE GOES! They've had that advert since the inception of Talksport I think!

The only predators would be the big clubs in the Championship
Wilder is hardly going to drop down a league, even if it is Villa or Leeds.

Most of the nation will still have hardly even heard of Chris Wilder, they will immediately think he’s another Neil Warnock. Playing direct/ long ball, organised, hard working football, that’s why I’m going to love the early weeks on Match of the Day when the presenters are shown to be clueless and shocked at our style of play.

There will still be no interest in Wilder from the PL unless we do something similar to Wolves and sit in the top half giving the top 6 a close game or if he keeps us up then the struggling PL clubs might be interested but doubt he’d join them either.

I'm a regular listener to Talksport and they have given us praise, no one can deny that if they've listened to Talksport this season. However, I have definitely detected that from two of their established hosts Jim White and Adrian Durham that they have said they want Leeds to go up and Jim White has said the PL needs Leeds, presumably it lacks something without Marching on Together or something. Jim White and Adrian Durham are of course entitled to express their preference but it doesn't come across well when they make it blatant that they want Leeds to go up, which can only be interpreted as Leeds over us, since we're the other team that is competing for the second spot.

I get that the PL needs the big boys in it, but it's done very well without Leeds over the last 15 years and as a product has never been better. When Leicester City won the PL that was the greatest story in the PL history and probably always will be, not Man U, and the other big clubs winning it every year. Fans of my generation will think it was a one off, which it is, but back in the 70's teams like Leicester could win the top flight on more than one occasion that wasn't the established "big 6".

My friend Real World has asked me to point out that presenting a tv programme or being a sports reporter does not imbue your opinions on football with any extra validity or authority. They are no more valid than yours or mine, well substantially less than mine, in truth.

This is almost too self-evident for words, but it’s lost on some of these smug numpties, Biggs being a prime local example.
