Afternoon all,

Quick pod here to review an excellent away win at Preston - cracking day all round and once again United respond to adversity with a great result! Covered in this pod is our formidable set-piece ability of late (06:50), McGoldrick's poaching skills (10:08), and player ratings (21:42).

Thanks for listening and UTB!

Beans Good podding as ever, interesting comments about Duffy as when i was watching online, he didn't seem to be having a great game, particularly first half.

Oddly i look forward to the ones when we've lost more than the ones when we've won... Although i think i get a few more stat surprises from the ones we win

Much as it pains me, I do find there's often more to say with games that we've lost, weird as that is. Maybe as fans we spend more time scrutinising / agonising over "what went wrong" rather than looking at what went well. I sometimes feel there's far more scrutiny / analysis of goals we concede rather than goals that we've scored - eg you'll get a multi-page thread on someone who missed a tackle for a goal, or a poor bit of goalkeeping, but rarely see the same level for a great cross / finish that lead to a goal for us. Not a criticism, I'm guilty of doing it too I'm sure!

Yeah and i think that the analysis you guys do when we've lost is often against the flow of the threads on here which can be in complete meltdown. So it's actually nice to hear someone try to analyse why things went wrong rather than just pinning blame on an individual.

I really liked the pre match analysis that you did for Preston. I don't get to watch as much Championship football as i'd like so i don't see too much on other clubs outside our region or our nearest rivals, so when we face teams like Preston i don't know their players, i just know the style of play, at least i think i do... though as we see on Roygbiv view froms, most opposition fans don't know much about us either.

Duffy was poor. There was no ‘seemed’ about it.

Yet he was effective

He gave the ball away regularly and in dangerous areas, though not as dangerous as Fleck, who was also poor. Duffy was lightweight and lost the vast majority of his battles for the second ball. In what way was he effective?

I speak as a big Duffy fan, by the way.

Well I watched the game again last night , and Duffy wasn't as bad as I thought watching it live. Problem is you tend to remember him making a mistake more than his overall contribution. He actually did some good things aswell. And there's no doubt overall we play better with him in the team. So its mixed feelings! I feel he has to start every game .

Cheers Beans, the Pods have been a delight this season, even after a defeat, eventually ..
