Thought that was quite touching. I suppose it's a case of small baby steps towards making football more of an attractive proposition for women. I would hope that the current media glare on women's football would go some way towards this PR offensive. Nice video featuring two women who are clearly Blade's diehards.
 
Anyone remember Mrs Sprintall.
Managed the Club Shop when it was a shop and not the superstore.

I used to stand on the John Street in the late 70’s, early 80’s and rarely saw any women or girls at our home or away matches. Think women/ girls tended to go in the seats instead of standing. Also remember being at school in the late 70’s, early 80’s and most school girls hated football, it was so unfashionable and not a girlie thing.

In my time growing up I’ve had a few girlfriends/ partners and every single one has hated football too.

So based on my experience it’s seems weird but encouraging to hear women being so passionate about SU.

What about Dot Pearson from, I think, Hackenthorpe? Does she still go to the Lane?
 
My grandad’s sister followed the Blades all over, pre-war, I think. I believe she was in some way recognised by the club for her loyalty but I was told this as a kid and both her and my grandad have been dead for many years. I wish now I’d asked my grandad more about it.

It would be interesting to know about general groups of Blades/ football supporter.

You’re a similar age to me and as you know in the height of hooliganism when crowds were really low in the mid 80’s, maybe it was my imagination but I can hardly remember seeing significant amounts of women, girls or ethnic minorities at our home games or as I say maybe they were all in the seats, so being a fan that stood never saw many.

Although I did used to stand on the John Street Terrace near the St Johns corner and there was a really old women (must have been in her 70’s) who always used to stand near to me with a younger tall grey haired guy in the late 70’s/ early 80’s.

You see old photographs of pre war crowds and virtually everyone seems to be male wear a flat cap with a large percentage having a moustache. It did seem to be historically “the men’s game”, makes you wonder if back in the day your grandma’s sister was seen as eccentric to be female and not just like football but actually go to matches.

That’s how I remember it. Mainly white blokes, younger lads at the back and old ‘uns at the front. I think you’re probably right that she was seen as a bit eccentric (although my grandad was obsessed with sport, it’s pretty much all he was into, I think he was a bit gutted when I turned out to be useless at cricket, really useless, but happy I was into the Blades, so it ran in the family) which is why she was given some kind of award by the club. I’m sure there were plenty of blokes who were just as loyal.

Somewhere in there is a photo and snippet of an old lady from Darnall who followed the blades.i believe she even whent to Southampton on Boxing Day many many years ago . That is of course your grandads sister was from that area ??

Was is this lady? This was in Blades v Charlton programme in December 1970.
