Henderson England Call Up

I don’t see why Butland got in. Heaton is in good form and Pickford is “England’s number 1”.

Angus Gunn probably should have got in for butland imo

He probably got left a message to get back to Southgate to confirm his position but wasted so much time getting back to him that Southgate moved on to the next keeper :D

Pickford is having a fucking nightmare since the World Cup.

I'd say Deano is a decent season away from England caps to be honest. He needs to iron out some inconsistencies first. He also needs to face PL teams

Agreed. If Deano has half a good season in the premier league next year he should be getting a call up and at the minute that number one shirt looks wide open.

...and he'd deserve it. He deserves to be a star that lad.

He does, and there's no faulting his 'die for the cause' mentality.

Although he's a great keeper, he needs to work on ironing of faults and develop a more composed attitude. Think Simon Tracey and Alan Kelly. Both were bloody great, level headed shot stoppers. He could be better than both of them if he gets his head right.

I don't get how this breaks AFTER he names a squad without him in?

What I will say though is if he gets in the squad before he's signed permanently, we'll have no chance of signing him permanently.

We have no chance of signing him permanently anyway, even if we go up.

Go up and a season long Loan will be agreed but then he will be back to Man U as their next number one.

Great shot stopper but consistently weak in dominating his area. Leeds and Villa games have cost us dear.
We all know that he knows that I’m sure he’s got it in hand and working on it.
He’s pulls of worldies time after time to keep us in the game for that I’m great full

100% right. As ive said before he said he'd take us up with the points hed save, stay with us for one year in prem and then be Man U no.1 the following season when DDG leaves. Only thing that could change is if we dont go up he'll go on loan to a Prem team.

A decent season....in the Premiership.
He’s playing well, but still with some room to improve and he’ll continue to do that with more experience. There’s at least 5-6 keepers ahead of him right now for that spot and given he’s 22 that’s how it should be.
Leave him to play for the U21 for another couple of seasons.

de Gea is 28, he’s there number one for 5 years.
IF we go up, I think there is a potential opportunity for a purchase with a buy back clause but I admit that could just be wishful thinking. Hendo being Man Utd’s No1 keeper in the next 3 years is even more so.

So glad we've got him for next season too regardless. I thought he'd definitely be off if we didn't go up.

He’s nowhere near International level yet. He’s a great character and a good shot stopper, but he doesn’t exude confidence into the defence. He’s weak at commanding his area and rarely comes for crosses. He’s also prone to losing his head late into games - Leeds, Stoke, Villa equated to 5 crucial points. He’s been targeted since those high profile errors and I still see some signs of nerves.

He’s young enough to make it to the top. But right now, I think he’s a little over hyped.

Wouldnt be surprised if Man Utd got another foreign keeper in to replace De Gea in a few years time....so Hendo should just become a Blade!

The Stoke game was the walls fault as you can clearly see in the match video. They didn't move to Henderson's left enough despite his repeated protestations.
For those criticising for the Leeds game, I ask but one question. Name me one goalkeeper in a fooballing side who's distribution hasn't resulted in at least one goal this season?
Clue: You can't have Allison, Ederson, Pickford,De Gea, Leno, Cech or Lloris. No further questions your honour. If he's been targeted they're targetting the wrong man.

Gea isnt signing a new contract, it runs out i believe in 18 months time

at the end of the day Henderson wants to be Man U no1, that's his aim. Its not about us, or any other club, he wants to make it at the biggest club in football. His ideal scenario is the one he's set out, obviously Man U might not agree with it, but until they tell him otherwise naff all is going to change

What, an out of contract player?? Im sure they could! They can afford Greizzman, Costa, Morata all on more than DDG. Plus it was his club as a boy...

I wasn't talking about a fee, I was talking wages.
How do you know Costa, Morata and Griezmann are on more than DeGea? I could maybe accept Griezmann as he signed a big deal fairly recently, but I doubt the other two.
They only pay Griezmann that because he has resale value too - De Gea won't.

Athletico can't compete with teams like Man Utd in terms of wages: you only have to look at their turnover. They only make 45% of the revenue that Man Utd do, and are between Spurs and Everton in the money league (closer to Everton than Spurs I might point out).

De Gea is reported to be asking for £350,000pw - could Athletico afford that?

My point was when a player moves when a contract runs out, clubs use what would have been a transfer fee as wages (see Juve and Aaron Ramsey). So for example if they paid him £300k a week, that's just over £15m a year, its not actually that bad as theyve got him for free.

I dont know for sure but it makes sense that centre forwards, who've come from a high paying English club, will generally be on higher wages than a goalie who's most likely coming to the end of a 5 year deal. I dont dispute that Man U dwarf anything that AM can spend in wages but that's not to say that DDG is one of those earners. Plus by the time his contract is up, he'll have been there 10 years, the likelihood is he might want to move on! Its been muted for about 12 months at least in the broadsheets, got to be some fire behind it.
