....before all you so called 'realists' start to bitch, moan and whinge about the same old drivel. Not one of you can criticise that team tonight. We were beaten by a goal we could do sod all about.

Ecouraged by tonght, with Monty and Ward playing in that game, i reckon it would have been a different result, and we passed it on the floor and looked good in stages.

No doubt all you 'realists' will berate this post or totally ignore it, as all you are content with is arguing with the posters that bite and reading your own inane posts.

I know which side of the fence I stand on....UT'F'B!!!

Thought the referee had a bad game; what was a free kick against Morgan was play on for Colucinni.

In real time it didn't look a free-kick i said it myself at the time, i thought it was good tackle in real time.

Walker has to learn he cant go trying to take players on evertime....

Gritty performance and praise to the lads for effort....

But...Its still not great is it! We didn't take our chances.

Thought we deserved at least a point from the game today.

Thought we were on top until the goal, then looked shaky for the following 15-20 mins but re-grouped for the final ten minutes where we threw everything at them without really threatening enough.

Things aren't going for us right now but i, personally, think this squad (on and off the pitch) will come good very soon and i still think we will make the play-offs.

I can't think of many better places to start a good run then Oakwell in a weeks time.

Up the Blades.

Was a free-kick on Walker for the goal

Free kick or no free kick, it was about the forth time i'd screamed at him words to the effect of "theres four f****** men Walker, look where you are!".

Stupid goal, unlucky once again, but in that position his first priority should be to defend, not take on 4 or 5 players again.

Thought we were the better team for the majority of the match, made more than enough chances to win it easily, but as usual at the moment, either nothing dropped or a poor decision at the key moment.

Some of the comments towards the team on the way out were a joke though, as dissapointing as the end result was.

Played brilliantly, really encouraging to see. It was a frustrating goal to concede but I'm pleased at how well the Blades kept them on their toes right the way through, especially towards the end. If only Steve Harper wasn't so good at his job.

Walker injured and no Morgan for Barnsley is bad news though!

Watch the tackle on slow mo - didn't get the ball just Walker - foul, yellow card.

Undisputable, even with the Newcastle factor.

But, whilst its good to have confidence in yourself, he needs to learn where on the pitch to try taking on 4/5 opposition players. Risked it big time a few times today.

In real time, I'd have said fair tackle... I will accede to the others who have seen it in slow motion but that's definitely not the worst decision given by the referee tonight. No excuse not to play to the whistle either, free kick or not.

It's just a little soul destroying and it's difficult to see where the goals are coming from.

Second thing you should be taught when learning to kick a football is to keep over it to keep your shot down (after learning not to toe-end it, of course). It's frustratingly simple stuff that we're cocking up every time. Stupid tippy tappy free kicks when we're just outside the box. Lax control meaning the ball is lost in dangerous areas. We looked to be chasing piss-coloured shadows at times because we were slow to react.

Treacy had a good game but the rest of the midfield was much of a red and white muchness. Walker tries to do to much when his priority should be to defend. Killa doesn't want to play for us, nor does he want to play for Newcastle if that's his best performance. Evans might as well not be on the pitch and Henderson's control let him down badly.

It isn't shockingly awful stuff... which in some ways makes it worse. It is simple stuff that all professional footballers should be able to do yet some of those lads in red and white seem incapable of doing.

Frustrated... but not too surprised by tonight. The spirit was there in patches if nothing else.

Tell that to Glen Johnson or Roberto Carlos.

I thought that Walker was the best player on the pitch for us by a country mile tonight. I think that a full back is afforded a little freedom to express himself; that is the beauty of playing wide rather then in the middle.

Too many of our players are content to do the bare minimum expected by a player in their position and so i'm happy to see Kyle take on a little more responsibility.

Enough chances to have got a least a point, and the type of goal you only concede when things just aren't going your way! Shame really, just a little sly grin our way from lady-luck and it would all be so different

why doesnt he? becuase he got shipped out to the u10s 'fat kid' position of LB and didnt look comfortable?
Blackwell is an idiot - left footer treacy on RW, quinn inside him, insanity watching them struggle all through the first half - then we switch stewart/treacy to no better effect whilst we have little and cotterill and even reid on the bench who wouldve been much more effective!

Like giving goals away? He'll be the first to know he should have got rid earlier and will learn from that. His first priority is to defend.

Best game for a while tonight apart from that - and their scorer should've been sent off for a foul on him earlier on - second yellow.

I haven't got a problem with him doing that, as long as its in a half sensible area.

There were 3 or 4 times he did it today when one slip or one of the 4 players around him getting a foot in could have very easily resulted in conceeding a goal.

With luck like we have at the moment, and against players of Newcastles calibre, whatever form they are in, its madness to risk it so often in a position like that.

Just as I screamed at him again for doing it in such a position, he got fouled and they scored :(.

Harper's save at the end was stunning :(

and whay didn't Smith get booked ofr fouling after he'd been talked to for shouting at the linesman, yet Morgan got booked for the first (i think) foul he committed!?!?!

I thought Treacy was one of our better players again tonight. Thought Killa looked more comfortable at left back than he has for weeks at centre back.

I'm a 'Blackwell' hater but have to say we were unlucky tonight..

However.... for a man who's said before 'Killa at left back doesn't work' he certainly isn't helping himself by sticking him at left back! - especially when he plays the left back left wing and then sticks him right wing to wander in the second half, he puzzles me. I thought Killa did well tonight for Blackwell - could've made him look a right twat (or even bigger twat) if he'd had a mare.

Also agree on Treacy / Quinn farce. The game really passed Quinn by tonight, again.

Upfront...no pace again.

I agree.
I just wish in some ways we'd have gone 3 at the back when Walker got injured as we had 3 centre backs on and could have gone for it with Williamson or Little instead of France.
To late now tho :(

He's a monster and has the potential to be a world class right back. What fenomenal pace and athleticism he has. Newcastle had to change tactics as the creative Jonas got nowhere in the first half, and they switched their full back Taylor over to that side to help with Walker.

Having said that, there are weaknesses about his game. His positioning is sometimes not right, and he must learn to identify the situations where he can't run with the ball.

Breaking it down I say we were awful - Defence like Swiss cheese, no shots on target until injury time, and a very ineffectual midfield. That said, we didn't actually do too badly, but I do disagree ith Sth and Paul when they say we bossed the first half - You would have thought that that would lead to Harper making some saves!

Evans had his best game in ages, so great movement off the ball and he showed good strength, but he never looked like scoring. Carroll schooled Henderson though in that particular role.

Noticiable that there weren't nearly so many booing at the end of this one.

I thought treacy was one of the better players in the second half when he played on the left but he and quinn, both positioned on the right side of midfield was a shocking decision by blackwell. i dont understand the killa bashing, especially as you thought he had a better game for us? i thought the difference was davies played well tonight, won a lot of headers.

i think the sad bottom line is were just rubbish at the moment and all this talk of quality not quantity is really coming back to haunt blackwell.

Like giving goals away?

Yes, i'm afraid that all players make mistakes and those prepared to run with the ball and take players on will inevitably make a poor choice now and again.

Ryan France would, no doubt, get rid of the ball whenever it came to him if he would have started the game. Would you have preferred that?

Do not forget that the foul which led to the dispossession of Walker and the massive deflection off Morgan were major factors of equal importance to the goal; so to say that Kyle gave the goal away is ridiculous in my eyes.

I was also surprised we continued for so long playing a left back at right wing second half.

That's fair enough, but as a full back, his main role should be defending. I think he's a little naive at times when bombing forward because he leaves massive gaps behind him... which is fair enough in a team which communicates as the man on the wing can drop back. But this is a bit beyond United at the moment and against a team like Newcastle, it could've been more dangerous.

The tackle on Walker looked to be a fair one at the time, I thought Nolan got the ball before he got Walker, and I was sat in line with it on the Kop.

Positives from tonight -
1. We played a lot better than any game so far this season, and weren't given the thrashing I expected.
2. I've got doner meat and chips, with lots of garlic mayo.
