Worrying stuff.

It is worrying, but I still say let's see what happens when some of the injuries subside. I do fear for tomorrow night though.

My theory is that when the current minor injury situation improves (ie when Ward and Monty return), other players will get injured and we will have more excuses from Blackwell.

Injuries are part of the game. We have a massive squad whatever KB says about a thin squad and should have eked out far more points than we have given the sides we have put out.

I actually fancy our chances tomorrow night - don't ask me why !
I feel it in my water !!!

Hardly minor when we've been playing men with injured bones because nobody else is available.

I think it's fair to say that we still have had the resources to perform much better than we have. That said, love him of loathe him (I love him), Monty is key to the way we play, even if you don't like it. We're based on not conceding and pinching goals. Can even Monty's biggest critics say that his style doesn't at least protect the defence?

Along with the loss of the keeper and his poor replacement, Monty is really important to a Blackwell team. And who can argue that Ward isn't a very important player to us? I don't think that case needs making.

Overall, I think we should improve when these players return. The worry is that Blackwell will not then know how to play us. He's clearly aware that the Masses are becoming bored shitless with long ball. Does he soldier on in the hope that we'll accept it if results turn. Does he try to change our style, and if he does does he have the know how to follow it through.?

It hasn't this season. In particular, his performances in the few games leading up to his injury left much to be desired. The area in front of the back 4, where he is supposed to operate, became a shooting gallery.

His style whould protect the defence in theory - it was a big help last season - but not so far this year when he's played, by and large.

the jury is still out, for me, on whether Ward can keep contributing at that level but there's no doubt he did very well this year before injury.

I also think we're going to get hammered tonight.

After years of seeing Monty's game defend the back four, it'd be a bit harsh to judge his contribution based on the few games before he was injured. He isn't the panacea, clearly, but he does contribute significanlty defensively. And we have to cocede that the defence itself has performed poorly, possibly the loss of Kenny being key.

I wouldn't be suprised at us getting hammered tonight. But then again, we're back to rank underdogs where we all seem to perform the best (as fans and as players), probably for all the wrong reasons.
