So that's Liam Rosenior and Ian Holloway who have openly said we are their favourite team in the league. Add to that the following who wax lyrical about us at very opportunity: Colin Murray, Keith Andrew, Jeff Stelling, Jim White [a bit of a knob, but still]. Then of course Steve Morison saying we are the best team he has played in the league, and of course finally 'the Master' Bielsa singling us out for special praise, admitting that he had tried [unsuccessfully] to implement some of our ideas into his own team.

It's all set up for us to just miss out, isn't it?.......:(

It's really cool at the moment to like United and our overlapping attacking centre half how the fuk system. It's makes pundits sound like they are going their homework and are football connoisseurs (in truth they probably see how well we are doing and think I'll just repeat what I've heard off the tele - probably a bit of the public in the Emperors New Clothes element going on).

We are in vogue, and the new cool. Good job that arsewipe Tony Blair wasn't still in power, he'd be trying to annex us to his cool Britannia blatherings.

We're cool dudes. But then, we always have been. You can tell just how much the grunters really hate it can't you as they desperately want to be liked, the insecure bstards!!
 
I remember the time when we got promoted from the old second division to the first division in 1970. I remember the commentators passing opinion on whether we would hold our own in the First division. I particularly remember listening to BBC Radio Sports Report and them waxing lyrical about how good a football team we were, with the likes of Woodward, Currie, Reece and they also mentioned Stewart Scullion. I remember feeling proud that positive things were being said about my team and I couldn't get enough of it. My bedroom was a holy shrine to Sheffield United back in those days. The walls were covered in any pictures I could get of the United players - mostly from "Shoot" magazine, which I had a subscription to. No one could have predicted what happened next though, as we took the First division by storm at the start of the next season and sat proudly top of it, until that famous game at Man Utd, when we got knocked off our perch by a certain Mr George Best.

I think it's great to have positive publicity about the team. I am looking forward to hearing similar when we go up in auto's this season. I can tell you now what the gist of the pundits comments will be. Some will say that it will be difficult for us to survive in the Prem because Wilder has got us to where we are on a budget made of chocolate buttons, but that won't be enough to survive at the next level up. And other pundits will say that Wilder's clever, unconventional tactics will catch a number of Prem teams out and we will be o.k.

The truth will be somewhere in-between I suspect. You can do a lot with effort and teamwork - but you also need a bit of quality as well. Let's worry about how we afford to bring that in later - for now let's concentrate on making sure we give ourselves this nice problem to have.

I remember after our 1 0 victory at Highbury in our blistering start to the 71 72 season Bertie Mee stated it was the best all round team performance he had ever witnessed.

Wow! I'd forgotten that Bill. We were a team back then eh? I think this one is also capable of great things. We don't have as much individual talent as we did in the 1970's team. There's no one in the current squad with the skill of Currie or anywhere near it. There's no one with the pace and blistering shot of Woodward either. Or the dribbling skills of Reece and Scullion. Or the combined striking skills of Dearden (good on the ground and in the air). And we don't have a midfielder as good as Hockey with his ferocious tackling and endless running. But...the way Wilder's got them playing and the effort they put in makes us a strong team. It's frightening to think how good we could become if he's allowed to bring in who he really wants in summer.

Absolutely nailed on. 3 horse race to the end, miss out on goal difference (despite beating Leeds) 10 points ahead of 4th, 22 ahead of 7th. Everyone’s favourites and most deserving winner in the play offs. Nothing could go wrong in this scenario :(
 
3 horse race my arse, everyone is getting carried away. At least 1 other team will get involved and top 3 will meet a few banana skins between them.
Tbh I can't see how Norwich are so far in front and the dirty's have shown they can have a bad patch. Neither of them two teams impressed me at bdtbl. If we avoid injury I'm guessing we could be looking to collect another trophy.

It is a shame though how some want to try to push players in to the team because they performed well at some point in their Blades career instead of reflecting on how well CW has done for us in his team selection. We have choices and challenging players for most positions. If players are no where near in their recovery then why try to change the things that have served us so well all season.

Interesting that. Out of all the players you've mentioned I would say Flecks the nearest to anyone in the 1970s team, i.e. Hockey. Tireless energy, short passing and a dirty little cunt when he wants to be.

yes I had those same thoughts as I wrote it. Fleck is a similar type of player to Hockey tbf. Although Hockey was a showman with it.
 



....also Duffy has the dribbling skills of Reece and Scullion and for me, Billy is as good and prolific as the other ‘Billy’ Billy Deardon. In fact, only the Woody and Currie types are missing but we do have strength elsewhere. Egan O’Connell and Bashambaur spring to mind ( two of those defo good enough for prem and one keeps reinventing himself so, possibly three) and if we can hang on to Hendo, he is the best keeper we have had since McCallister and probably better!
 
'Diet Hockey'....but given how the game is changed Trev would have needed to be 'Diet Hockey' now, or he'd have seen red after ten minutes in every game.

Nah, the two Billys are chalk and cheese. Billy1 ran himself into the ground every game, Billy2 loiters to deadly effect. Billy1 had an exquisite touch and scored some goals which were never on Billy2's CV. However Billy2's instincts would leave Billy1 for dead. Lastly Billy1 was built like a streak of piss. Billy2 is, well, our fat lad isn't he....?
 
Back to Holloway. I'm just watching the repeat on Quest. 'Which teams (in the Championship) do you think will go down, Ian?' Well, Colin, you can't roite off Rotherham with their foiting spirit.' After watching them yesterday, they're down.

A few times on Soccer Saturday he has mentioned us, mostly in the context of praising Wilder and how he (amazingly) doesn't get touted more for PL jobs.

Yes Bill I was there that night Stewart scullion scored in 1st minute then we just played them at their own game , don't think they looked like scoring till near the end. Great memories .

I hope they’ve still got a win in them, next weekend.
