I feel I have to share this one.

There is a relatively infrequent occurrence takes place prior to us winning.

I tend to hear John Denver's Annie's song playing somewhere unexpected and then we win.

First before the Derby game I think it was, there was a guy playing music in the street. Just as I approached, Annie's song happened to be his song of choice.

Before the West Brom game, I heard John Denver playing in the supermarket. This happened on at least one other previous occasion, I think before we beat Wigan away.

Low and behold, I heard it again in the supermarket today.

Now I suppose you might say that this featuring in a UK supermarket is quite plausible and perhaps even the odd busker may fancy the song, especially if in Sheffield.

But I don't live in Sheffield or UK these days. I live in Singapore. Good omen, surely?!

Where/how do you intend to be watching the game on Monday night? I am also in Singapore........

Ahh I used to live in Singapore. Good times. As far as I recall Boat Quay was a pretty popular spot for watching, or the Penny Black pub. I watched the Hull FA Cup semi at a very late hour there!

Have fun wherever you go :)

I'll probably just end up trying to find a stream and watching it in bed! Awful timing with it being 3.45am Tuesday in Asia.

We'll have to keep up to date if there is a game at a more palatable time.

I'm in Tanah Merah. So not do far away. I used to live in Siglap. Nice area.

Just to be clear I shall not be joining you to watch this one then ;-)

The moniker is a little misleading - I have moved to Holland Village now and not thought to updating my screen name. Still no where is far away in Singers

I am sure there will be another more civilized televised game in the not to distant future.

SiglapBlade You might find the odd “SUFC” graffiti around the place as I lived in Holland Village 2014-2017. Just woken up in Blighty, but I could murder a couple of curry puffs from Old Chang Kee for brekkie.

Ha ha. Potential Morecombe and Wise sketch avoided!

We seem to be on TV every other week! Play offs will probably be at a decent time but I'm still hopeful we don't need those!

Omens only work when you don't highlight them. Best to keep them to yourself.

Note, I will be ramming this thread down your thought if we lose. :):D

The best omen I can think of, is what happened last time you lot came to Hillsborough when we had a Geordie as manager.......

That year ended in a 9 as well.......

And you lot were riding high at the top of the league that year as well......

I’ll do the response for you.

That year started with 201 as well...

And you lot were sh1t then as well.....

I might set up another username and have debates with myself.

I was awoken at 5.30 this morning by the sound of Owls twit twooing in nearby woodland.

Make of that what you will

Champers have got it on your headphones and you'd forgotten

You were in the supermarket early.

Even your own Manager wants us to win...I heard him say in his interview "May the best team win".

....

Last time you had a giraffe, this time a hippo. Still, I suppose it's better than Manuel or Hitler.

Have the dreams started for anyone else yet?

I had my first derby dream on Tuesday night. We lost 2-0, Reach scored one of them.

I woke up, fell back asleep and this time we went 1-0 up. But as it was the Brazilian Ronaldo that scored, I'd take it with a pinch of salt...

Hopefully you're not singing about us being poor living in singapore.

HAHAHEHHEHAHA

:D:D:D:D:D:D

sorry

Oh fuck. Reach scored in my dream too. It was weird, as dreams often are. At half time I went for a pint, ended up going up two flights of stairs and was in a commentary box and couldn't find my way out. I'm going to have to stop drinking before games.

Tell me about it, I always get lost at the stadium in dreams, or end up watching from some really weird spot.

Dropped my boss' car off for a valet this morning, when I went to collect it they'd left the cd sticking half way out of the stereo, I had a look what it was before putting it back in... The best of John Denver.

Is it a sign? I'll tell you later.

I recommend picking a number from 10-99. Look for that number everywhere. When you look at a clock, when you see a date, a phone number, if you open a book to a random page, check for that two digit number.

Then, when it gets too spooky to handle, disavow yourself of confirmation bias and realise omens and superstitions are consistently useless when it comes to predicting anything.

I’ve picked 72 but what if that wasn’t random. What if that’s in some way a significant number for me and my thoughts were guided to it? Am I going to die at 72? Or father a child?

Nah, it’s a bollocks isn’t it. My theory is that it’s an extension of our ability to understand cause and effect, a distortion of the thing that helps us invent stuff and work things out. We naturally look for patterns and end up seeing them where they’re not there.

https://www.random.org/

Don't panic, the universe has heard your plight and provided for you. Although it's probably a pseudo-RNG, and you can't know for sure that fate itself didn't cause the stars to align at my birth and lead me to that site so I could pass it on to you.

I've always been fascinated by randomness and how bad we were as individuals at recognising it.

I've also always hated the idea of superstitions. Not just because they're clearly objectively useless, but I dislike the very idea of them if they were real. If I thought my actions were so connected with the world that wearing the wrong underwear caused United to lose, I'd be so utterly obsessed with finding these weird patterns that I don't know if I could get dressed in the morning in case the wrong combination of clothes caused nuclear war.

Or, stop drinking in your sleep

You can borrow a good shotgun and put an end to that.
Stuff your footstool with his feathers and wear stinky socks when you put your feet up.

I had a dream last night that I had a polite conversation with Chris Wilder on the train in the first class carriage of an East Midlands Trains train – a rare treat. I was selfishly taking up an entire 4-seat table spreading out various papers on the table (this had a midweek day feel to it), and after the train had stopped for a minute or two I noticed in my peripheral dream-vision I could see someone.

They took the rear-facing seat on the single table opposite, and were talking on the phone about some player injuries. The man was Chris Wilder. I thought he’d be more of a forward-facing-seat guy, but apparently not. It became clear as the conversation wore on that he was on the phone to Alan Knill (I believe he referred to him as “Knills” – I’m not even sure if that’s what he calls him in private).

Naturally this whole set of events had completely halted whatever work I was doing (I think I was doodling so as to hide the fact I was intensely listening in to Wilder’s phone call). When he’d finished there were a few moments of silence before I leaned across and introduced myself as a Unitedite. I’d already decided that I wasn’t going to ask him anything about the current team because he’d almost certainly be far to reserved to talk in detail about that, so instead asked him about his time as a player – I mentioned he’d played in the first game I saw us in, a 2-1 win vs Villa in 1991, and we had a nice chat where he enthusiastically talked about the Bassett days.

The last thing I dared to ask him about was to try and pin down who it was that came up with the overlapping centre-backs idea – him, Knill, or someone else. I woke up not remembering whether that was answered and if so what it was.

There are numerous causes of the above (a first for me re: highly vivid dreams involving detailed conversations with current United managers). 1. I’d been booking a train up to Preston for the game there in a few weeks time just before bed. 2. I’m 2 chapters into the book Danny04 has written. 3. General pre-match stress brought on by another Sheffield derby.

No idea if that’s a good omen mind...
