Me and my Mrs spoke to them on Saturday, the landlord has basically kicked them out after 10 years. The landlord has put the rent up but didn’t even offer them 1st refusal and has let it out to someone else.

Sad news. They put so much into the Harland. 6 1/2 years since the previous, inferior cafe was there. I think they have improved the appeal of the yard they are in, and the landlord is very shortsighted . I shan’t be going in again once they’ve left. I wish them luck.
 
My space is behind them in the Portland Works, we might be able to sort something if they PM me.

They were both very upset about it, I won’t be going in either.

Can't get on with Pictish ales. Had a couple now and they always taste like a joss stick.

It’s good but it has changed hands 3 times in the last 3 years. The old lady 3 years ago was the best, but she always ran out of fish. She used to ask us to phone up if we wanted a fish! FFS! “Phone a fish” line eh? Ridiculous!

The next was a Master Fryer - of Admiral Crookes fame. He was very good - but he only had a few "big" fish every saturday. And if you got there after 2pm you might not get one!

The present incumbents are by far the worse. They run out of everything - regularly! I was in there the other day. There must have been a queue of 20 people outside the door, 45 mins before kick off. Guess what the most popular order is? "The special". It consists of fish, chips and a choice of peas or beans, and a sausage. Not too difficult that is it? But with 10 people inside the shop and 20 outside it, there are only 4 sausages left in the pan. Does the guy spot this and put more in? No. He runs out first then does that. With the "mini-fish" being a key component of the "special", and with 10 people inside the shop and 20 people outside, does he anticipate that the 3 remaining fish in the pan might not be enough? No. And then we run out of chips!

I was in there over 40 minutes, just to buy a "special" - their "main dish" of the day.

Never again!

The food is lovely but it's not worth missing the match over!
 
Not what they were since the owner sold up a few years ago, he was the Chris Wilder of the brewery.

Andy at the Sheaf View used to keep some of his Blue Moon 6.1 % ABV (when it left the brewery ;)) for up to 6 months in the cellar by which time it was .*^9)$ " % and release it on a busy Friday Saturday. They would sell out a 9 gallon barrel in less than 3 hours... I used to get a text alert :).

Everyone ITK used to have a stupid smile on off their face.

Cath the 'old' owner sold it and moved back to Devon to escape her Ex.

Still owned by The Admiral, problem is they had no customers apart from match days.

Nigel who used to run it for them caught the bus from Rotherham..

The girl who used to serve left and the new 'girl' was having a fag by the back door when the wind blew it shut she fell on the ground and is suing the owners - where there is a gold taxi - there is a claim. Probably a pig fan..

Maybe I should take it on as I used to run a chippy when I should have been revising in the sixth form.

This is the problem, there are only 2 pans for frying, you cannot fit more for that 45 minutes, like the ques for beer at half time.

It's quiet at 12.00 ;) when I go for mine.

Yeah agree. It's great and convenient but only if the queue is about 10 or less. We timed it and found that if it's more than that in the queue it is actually quicker to walk down to the Moor Fisheries, where they bust a gut to serve quick, and then walk back up to the ground.

Cath was brilliant. Great banter. She stayed in Sheffield for a while, helping her daughter out at her sandwich bar/ cafe. When I cut back on the chips and just had a fish she always hid a few chips in there because she thought I needed them.

need to get to man Friday been going there for 15 years & never had a problem. although I decided considering a average of 25 games for 15 years at £5 or £6 a pop. I dont want to know how much I spent there :)

A few years back I used to pop in there on the occasional Friday lunchtime when I worked on Eccy Road. Never had the slightest idea what she was talking about, but the fish and chips were ace. :)

I used to go in there years ago when I went on the kop. The quality of the fish and chips in there is nowhere near that of A Salt n Battered tbh. Huge difference. But if I was going on the kop then maybe that wouldn't matter.

I've seen her do that many times. Give folks a few free chips. She was a nice lady. I'm sorry she packed it in.
 
The new owners who run the Admiral at Crookes are nice too . I sometimes go to the Ball Inn to watch Sky games and a chippy tea.

The Howard serves a decent liquid brunch.
 
I don't have Fish & Chips very often. About every couple or three years. Bought some in Bourne Lincolnshire. I live about 15 miles away. They cost 7 fecking quid and they were hacky. I miss Sheffield Fish cakes. :)
