Fleck's challenge on John Obi-Mikel

Are there any clips around of Fleck's challenge on John Obi-Mikel? I have to say at the time I thought he did dive in two-footed and maybe a bit lucky to escape a red card, but it's always hard to judge in real-time.

It was the sort of tackle that wasn't a foul ten years ago; was a foul but not a yellow card five years ago; and is a yellow card (and sometimes a red) today. Basham had a similar one earlier in the season. He got the ball but dived into the tackle in a way that means it's considered dangerous play these days.

Did everybody hold their breath not long after when 2 players were coming in and Fleck just nicked the ball before them. I thought 2nd booking and red was coming but luckily he had the pace to get there first.

It was honest and low, but talking in today's terms it was reckless and uncontrolled.
I'd be disappointed if anyone got sent off for a challenge like that but it wouldn't surprise me.

Not sure it was reckless or uncontrolled. It wasn't two footed (the foot striking the ball was well in front of the other foot) and it was low.

I'd have been fuming if he got sent off for that.

Nothing about the tackle was reckless or uncontrolled. Nobody would even remember it if it hadn't happened directly in front of the opposition bench, which gave them the chance to kick up a fuss (which they possibly wouldn't have done either had they not had a man sent off themselves)

If you leave the ground, you're not in control. If you can't pull out of the challenge if the situation changes then you're not in control of your movement or momentum.

It was only an issue as it happened right in front of their bench, and charmless Pulis and co, were desperate for the ref to even it up and send one of ours off. They knew they were never going to equalise otherwise.

It wasn't double footed either, just his single foot with foot just off the floor when he made contact with the feckin ball. If that's considered as dangerous we might as well just change to mirror netball. I've had stronger farts than that challenge.

It was stopped because the ref had given a free kick to us for the challenge just before Fleck’s.

I don’t think play would’ve stopped and he wouldn’t have booked Fleck if their bench hadn’t reacted like it did.

From where I was sat in the south stand, Fleck did look to have dived in with both feet and all his body off the ground. Still not yet seen a replay of it though
