Best 'traditional' Centre Forward performance I've seen from a United player in a long time (Sharp has some elements of that to his game, but he's more a poacher). He barely put a foot wrong. Or a head, or chest, for that matter.

As for Cranie, I missed the Boro game so I was pleased to see that the effusive praise I heard of his performance in that one was merited again today. I'm glad Wilder and the team managed to see enough in training etc to know he was worth a contract extension.

I noticed a few times that Gary Madine would take a quick look at opposition players around him (when Deano was taking a goal kick), and then point to where he wanted Deano to try and place the ball (or where it drops, to be accurate), on one occasion he was pointing a few feet in from of him, on another, he was pointing up (I assume for his head) and on another in front of the south stand, he was patting his chest. Obviously thinking two or three moves ahead.

Cranie - had a good game and ended up coming forward as the game wore on. More than capable as a first team starter, as well as a bench player.

I dearly hope that Gary Madine has become a much better person than he has been in the past because I hate to see knobheads being any part of our club . I've had quite enough of those , thanks very much .

Certain things point to the fact that this may be the case and , if so , I'm delighted that he's joined us because as a footballer he's certainly exceeded my expectations.

His ball control , movement and finishing on Saturday were of a very high order and those qualities coupled with his physique , make him the kind of centre forward which most teams would love to have and one who could make all the difference to our promotion campaign .

As a social animal I am very fond of good food, good wine and good conversation though any two of the three will suffice at any given moment.

The very best conversations, and indeed the very best exchanges on here, are those where the participants allow the dialogue to roam where it will. It can lead you to enchanting and exciting places where you had no expectation of going. You can always retrace your steps at any time.

The acquisition of both Madine and Cranie have shown the astute understanding that Wilder has of what will make a difference for us. I doubt if even Wilder could have foreseen how quickly Madine has fitted in. Continuing to win becomes the best sort of habit, add to that drawing games, and you soon adopt a mentality that's tough to compete against. Apart from the unfathomable collapse against Villa, we're generally a compact side that doesn't concede too many goals. Madine now gives us a presence and focal point that most defenders will struggle to contain, while Crainie's competency in a defensive role is a great relief, and the fact that he's played at this level brings with it the sort of capability and consistency that has far more benefits that negatives.

We have a squad that's finally equipped to compete in the knowledge that should an injury or suspension occur we can switch players around knowing they'll offer something positive. Here's hoping Norwood remains free from further yellow cards, at least for the next 3-4 games. I haven't mentioned the other debutant, Hogan. his overall contribution delivered many positives. Still much to learn about his readiness for a staring place, but he was good yesterday and caused defender's to get rid of the ball far quicker than they'd have liked. We're looking good, and the mood in the dressing room must be first rate. It crossed my mind exactly how Sharp and McGoldrick must have viewed this performance, which is no bad thing as it's designed to keep everyone on their toes performance-wise.

Top showing from everyone yesterday, and the belief must surely be growing that we won't allow our quality to slip as we continue to keep pace, remaining in touch with this division's leaders..

Thought this was going to be about that fat twat Le Tissier

He was asked before the games started to discuss the promotion candidates from the Championship and he mentioned every club all the way down to Forest, then said it's unlikely Villa will make the play offs............Not a single solitary word about us

There's racist, sexist, and all sorts of other ist's but I really think he is Northernist
His comments about any Northern club other than Man Utd, City and Liverpool are always offhand and dismissive
He's even got better things to say about Portsmouth
