What about Rotherham, I was looking for a family member who was interested in going with me, category A*. For Rotherham. Tickets start at £31 on the Kop, they'll be £35 on the South.

I legitimately find that offensive.
I know it's a local team but it's hardly a big derby, I'd be surprised if Rotherham bring more than 1000 to be honest.

Going on recent history Rotherham take decent numbers to big matches in the Championship.
Also we haven’t played Rotherham for a while, reckon there would be a demand of 3 or 4,000.
But as the pricing is so high, it might but a few off, so the demand drops to about 2,500 ish.

Thanks to SY Police our away end Is restricted to just over 2,200, no doubt the Merry Millers will sell the lot.

Looks like we're 24th in Britain, 22nd excluding Rangers/Celtic. 25,159 this season is pretty impressive, I think this is still the legacy of Mccabes intelligent pricing when we were in the PL.

Shame they don't just show actual attendees, they'd be struggling to average 20000 this season.

True, under Luhukay they’ve had a few crowds below 20,000, the night match at home to Bolton was estimated as about 15K (maybe even lower) but due to season ticket holders being included the official attendance that night was given as 20,861.

i think its a brilliant attendance thinking of recent history & other cities excluding London because that an anomaly its comparing equivalent Yorkshire or Lancashire. only Liverpool & Manchester have both clubs averaging over 25000 in . all the other 2 team cities towns have 1 big team & 1 little team

then in the 3rd tier over the 6yr period we averaged 19,400 even at our lowest 15,500 its what most teams in that league & some league above could only dream of

Remember when tickets were sold in cash on the gate, it was either the guys on the gates pocketing a few quid or the club not putting ticket sales through the books but I saw some games in the 80's where the attendance figures were low but the stadium seemed packed.

Probably. Same as Arsenal went from 38k to 60k when they moved to The Emirates (or so they claim). I remember Southampton used to get around 15k at The Dell - more than doubled now they're at St. Mary's.

Why can’t we sell out say boro/reading at home next week.

Not saying that isn’t great support but I’d be very disappointed if the rest Of our home games weren’t 27/28k plus

Middlesbrough (Wednesday evening, live on Sky), Bristol City & Millwall won't bring many. Forest is a Friday night live on Sky which will hit the crowd. Reading, Brentford and Ipswich? One man and his dog.

Also, there's too many barriers for the 'walk-up' fan (and I don't mean SYPDs 'Hate Wall') - daft ticket prices, no 'pay on the gate', 'are you a member?', 'how many loyalty points do you have?', 'are you on our database?' etc. etc. The gap between 'walk-ups' and season ticket holders is too big. Plus usually shitty weather at this time of year.

We're doing fine. I used to think that United should introduce a scheme to attract the local Chinese population but - for most games - Bramall Lane is at near-90% capacity allowing for the ridiculous cordoned-off areas.

Football is currently shooting itself in the foot - no cheap/free tickets to encourage the future fans (kids), red button, daft/late changes to kick-off times to accomodate Sky and the over-zealous antics of the police. The FA Cup fifth-round games games won't all be sell-outs (QPR v Watford, Swansea v Brentford, Doncaster v Palace. Who, apart from the fans of these clubs, actually cares?)

The West Brom v Brighton 4th round replay last night showed the future - 8,018 home fans + 627 away fans. Unless the clubs - and football in general - wake up, they'll find that a generation of fans will have found something else to do. And however they over-hype games, Sky and occasionally the Beeb won't be able to hide thousands of empty seats.

I remember we played Rotherham at Christmas and the gate was something like 24k. There must have been close to that many on the kop, it was rammed. Even the new stand was three quarters full and that used to be virtually empty in those days.

it's incredible to see that we're averaging over 7k more than the 'Triple Assault' 2002-03 season where we just missed out on promotion to the PL. Even stranger, we're currently 2k over the 2005/06 season when we actually did get back in the PL. We're getting nearly 7k more than 2011/12 when we again reached the PO Final. Could it be that people thought we'd get back in the PL sooner or later so it was no big deal?

I think it's a 'Division One bounce' where six years at the third level - playing Stevenage, Yeovil, Crawley etc. but the crowd stayed remarkably loyal - has ended up with us back in the best division in Britain. Plus having a manager who connects with the fans, rather than the failures we've had down the years, has reinvigorated us. I know it has me.

Half their games last season went down as 28-29,000 but there was barely 20,000 in the stadium

At a guess i'd say perm any of:
- on TV
- individual match ticket prices
- 2 games at home in 4 days
- its mid feb not end of season where something is on the line
- school half term
- people only had one pay packet since Xmas
- society issues at large (higher unemployment than back in 2006-2008)
- probably smallish (maybe not boro) away support
- unattractive opposition - Pulis' Boro are not a good watch compared to Bielsa's Leeds for example

It'd be great if the ground could sell out every match, and had an electric atmosphere to boot, but sadly its not going to happen. We couldnt even sell out our tickets at home to the Pigs this season

If Boro was the saturday game, that might stand a chance of getting up to 30k but mid week it wont come near. And Reading on the saturday will be the same.

if we are still in among the top two later in season the only two home fixtures that will come close to a sell out would be Forest on good Friday and Ipswich if we can win promotion that day. The rest will be between 26-28k

Talking of which, I tried to buy two tickets to take my grandchildren to the Rotherham match as a birthday treat, only to be told that I can’t take them as it’s a local derby and season ticket holders can’t buy an additional ticket for this match. Not only that, they also have to be registered and have fifty loyalty points so I can’t even do that.
I might just about understand if it really was a real local derby and secondly if it’s going to be a certain sell out which I doubt.
I haven’t had the courage to tell them they can’t go yet as I’m fairly sure there will be tears.

It's good to see the club doing more things for kids on match days like they do in the john street with the family area etc.

But as others have said and I've pointed out since the start of the season, the walk up fans are put off from attending. This may change as we move closer to promotion, but 30 quid to watch a match is robbery.

The atmosphere's seemed amazing to me, but the ground was nearly half empty!

Attendances are up generally in that period since 2003. More people go to see their local team.

Plus most people have season tickets now which keeps attendance higher.
