Sod him, get rid asap
Matt Kilgallon has rejected the offer of a new and improved contract, Kevin Blackwell revealed today.

The United manager - who has continued to select the defender throughout the discussions taking place over the last few weeks - broke his silence to set the record straight following conjecture that United were dragging their feet:

"We have offered him a substantially larger deal than he was already on but his legal advisors and agent have rejected it as not good enough."

this is exactly the same as happened with michael brown - who also said he hadnt been offered a deal. sorry but i dont believe a word of it.its precisely what blackwell was enlisted as manager - on a nicely updated contract at that while other players couldnt get a sniff - to strip everything down and take the flak. pathetic.

why is it so unvelievable that we've offered him a deal? It's what happens at this stage, and clearly we're miles off in terms of what we can / will offer and what he wants. I think he wants out either way, but who knows? Who knows what we've offered and what he wants.

I'll put the mortgage on him wanting more than it's sensible for us to pay. There's a lot to moan about at the minute re United, but I don't see this as being something. Kilgallon's a good player, but he's not THAT good.

Except for Killa and his agents both said a few weeks ago that they were discussing terms, but he wanted to look after himself money wise... I heard it with my own ears. This was after quite some time of discussions.

He wants more than we are willing to offer.

If he wants too much we can't keep him, simple as. If he carries on defending the way he did on Saturday, no-one will pay him what he wants.

puppet is right .. same old same old i'm afraid.. personally i think its because no one would guarantee if he'd have any proper team mates (so he'd know who he was playing with) being so dependent on loan signings <laugh>..
its always a worrying sign at a club when players are 'asking' to leave IMO

Let him go, he's a good player, but he wont prosper to much if indeed he heads to the top division.

If we get 2 million in Jan, then thats a good deal with his contract over in the summer

Why is Puppet right?
Does he have proof that we haven't done what is said and that Blackie is lieing?

what do you mean same old? What do you want the club to do differently? Would you just pay him what he wants? £2M per year? How much?

its the usual blackwell weasel words.. it gets on my nerves..
player won't sign contract.. in other words .. we don't think he is worth that much but the fans love him and we haven't the bottle to say so
the other team were crap.. we lost
etc

Asking players to leave?
Killa is actually holding out over team mates not money or PL football?

NURSE! We've found him. :)

the chance of us stating that we've offered a deal when we haven't are somewhere between zero and nothing. It's typical babble that comes out when everything looks grim. "Losing the dressing" room is another standard line.

same old? heh.. how long have you been here?
jones, tudor, currie, hamson, sabella, deane, fjortoft, brown, kyles.. and the next one is..
wonder what happened to the kyles money?

Blackie said 'we offered a contract and he wanted too much more', whats so bad about that?
If you had a business and an employee came to you saying they wanted more money that you were willing to pay and was sensible to pay you'd tell them to get lost wouldn't you?

Do the fans love him (killa that is)?
I think he's making himself very unpopular at the moment.

Hear hear Ginger.

I've been saying for weeks to get rid. We are going nowhere, he wants to play in the premiership. It makes sense to cash in on him while we can.

I posted on a different thread saying somebody should be calling Newcstle, Boro, Villa, Wigan, the promoted teams etc and offering him out on loan with the promise of 2 million in January.

>Asking players to leave?
please read more carefully.. the other part was a joke.. you have no sense of humour..

ah, "same old" in that we've lost a player who wants better things than we can offer? Welcome to the world of football. How long have YOU been here?

Puppet was suggesting something completely different - that we're saying we've offered a deal when in fact we haven't. And you were agreeing with him.

Kilgallon has been offered a contract but his wage demands are not too short of Beattie's wages when he was here. We couldn't afford Beattie so we cannot afford Kilgallon. If he wants that money and has to go elsewhere then so be it. After Saturday he would be lucky to have impressed a horny chimp.

oh i get it .. you're the happy bunch..

sorry.....we're shit, everything's wrong, in fact it's never been worse. There isn't one good thing about United.

I feel better now. No really.

Just because people don't mirror your opinion, doesn't mean they are in a group.

Personally, i'm not happy in the slightest about the Killa situation, but having heard Matt Kilgallon and the club both say that they were in discussions, I have no reason to think they are lying.

Simple fact is, Killa thinks he's at the stage of his career where he needs a BIG contract, we are at a stage where we cannot afford to do that.

I really dont think there is a problem, we cant afford Killa, Kev can go find a replacement with the money he has offered Killa, easy peasy, over to you Kev ...

If we performed like he did Saturday our P45's would be in the Post, Get rid and Quickly - no-one Player is Bigger than the Club.

I can tell you something. I hope that the premier league club scouts have not been watching his recent performances, otherwise interest might be dwindling!!!???

He's obviously going in january, any player that doesn't want to sign let em go and send Blackwell and Ellis packing with em!!!

I think Killa is pricing himself out of staying at United.

The words "expensive" and "unjustified" really don't cover it if the figures I've been told are anything to go by.

He's pretty much saying that he doesn't want to be here, but by playing like he did on Saturday, he's not going to find the big move he wants.

Killa is not about to put in a transfer request because he would lose out on money and in any case his contract ends in the Summer. However, his negotiations appear to mean the same thing - he wants out since he thinks himself better than the club and knows in his own mind that if he stays there is no chance of him playing in the Prem while his contract runs.

It's rubbish saying that the Club or Blackwell have lied. There is probably no contract on the table becuase they have not reached any agreement on terms. You don't draw up a contract if you have not agreed the figures. Killa and his agent are playing games, though. They will never reach a settlement because he wants to leave. Killa will get a good stash when he moves to Wigan (Martinez has always been a fan of his) or somewhere like that, on a Bossy. He can sign pre-contract terms in January and go for nothing or he will be sold and shipped out as quick as we can. However, I doubt we will get much of the £1.75m we paid for him though. Expect to get £500k max in January when he moves to one of the mediocre prem clubs.

Personally, if a player is holding you to ransom in that way then I believe he should be forced to rot in the Ressies whilst his contract runs out. In reality I don't think that many clubs can afford to do that, Blades included. You have to trust that they will act in a professional mannner - but Killa has not shown that in recent weeks.

Brown was offered a contract and was very close to signing it. In fact, he told the rest of the squad that he was staying shortly before he left the club. (Source: one of the players at the club at the time)
