Sounds very much like the assessment of the Hanson signing when teams began to sit very narrow and deep against United in the promotion season.

"He gives us a physicality at the top of the pitch....possibly, from a tactical point of view, it gives us something different and we're looking at that in the second part of the season: that teams might sit in towards the back of this campaign, so we might need something a little bit different".
... "he's physical ,technically very good, and hopefully he can get on the end of some of the crosses we're putting in".

It will be interesting to see if him and Billy can hit it off as a partnership, on paper it should work but I don't know enough about his all round play tbh as to whether he's going to be a 100% effort all round player or more of an impact off the bench type. He certainly gives us more options and the defence more to worry about which can only be a good thing.

I guess Leon is under more of a threat than McGoldrick, probably worse news for Washington who probably won't even get on the bench now.

I would have Washington rather than Clarke on the bench ,Washington offer something we don't have and to be honest I haven't seen anything from Clarke this season that merits any potential to him making a difference.

He's going to be an impact sub for at least a month. Won't be anywhere near match fit for the championship and has two in form strikers in front of him at the least in sharp and didzy.

Wouldn't expect to see him start a match until at least February. 15/20 minute cameos up until then and a few u23/behind closed doors friendlies I suspect.

Agreed. I think if you have Madine on the bench then you should have Washington as well, no point in Clarke and Madine as they are used in the same way (i.e. a physical presence towards the end of a game or when chasing a game). Shame for Leon but I see the Madine signing as a tell tale sign that he's done at the lane.

How's Ched going to fit in?

Would not disappoint me to see Clark move on. Yes he had a good season last year but in all honesty since signing his new contract he has offered very little. Has I believe two years on a contract which will not be on low wages and his monies could be used to fund the fee and wages of a younger guy with potential.

"He gives us a physicality at the top of the pitch", Could've done with him when Muscat was been a shithouse.

Now managing in Oz, his teams get 3/4 bookings a game but then again most of 'em do in the A League :)

I think it’s possible for Clarke and Madine to be in the team. Madine is a battering ram, designed to get on the end of crosses and destroy defences.

Clarke is not that kind of player at all, he links things up l, can be a physical player but not in the same way. I actually think Clarke is poor as a target man as he’s better on the ball and as a finisher.

I think Washington despite all his endeavour and running around doesn’t actually offer that much.

While I accept that GM can offer us something different tactically, it is naive in the extreme to think that Mssrs Fleck Coutts Norwood and Duffy will be employed to maximum effect when said washer dryer is on the pitch.

Now if this is how Chris sees it, then this is how he sees it. Maybe Fleck in particular could push further up the pitch and benefit more from picking up 2nd balls in the last 1/3rd of the pitch. We will see.

But when GM IS on the pitch, it will most definitely signal a fundamental change in philosophy and approach.

I’d quite like to see those two angry fuckers up front together.

Madine will come off the bench most games. It wouldn't surprise me if we actually see Madine, Clarke, Sharp and McGoldrick all on the pitch at the same time.
