Angry at Wilder today

Is that all football is to you - the trophy in the cabinet? What about the games along the way, the high points, the great goals, taking on bigger teams, being in the draw.....

We get promoted we play the bigger teams every week. Why risk it for a one off.

I think they aught to change the rules about how many players you can change because by this showing today wilder put a team out, not to win the match but to hopefully do enough to get through. This to be honest is defrauding the fans that have paid good money to watch their team compete in the top cup competition. If not interested in competing then just come out with it so nobody wastes their hard earned

He has had a bad weekend

He’s disprepected the fans (of which he bangs on about being one)

He’s disrespected the competition

He’s disrespected Barnet.

Behaviour I’d expect from Warnock rather than Wilder.
He also disrespected my family and the shaolin temple.

And what will we win in the Premier League? (To use your logic.) Besides which, a good cup run can be beneficial to a promotion push. Quite clearly some of the squad need more playing time; the opportunity for that in the cup has now gone.

Maybe another demonstration to McCabe of the shallowness of our squad.

Even making all those changes, with it clearly not working at half time, Basham (who'd had a rest thanks to his suspension) should have been on then to add some pace to the hopeless defence and try to get something working with Freeman up the right. When he finally did come on, the little triangles of Bash/Duffy/Freeman were the most likely place for us to create something, but by then Barnet were well camped back. There was a lack of urgency and interest from the players, but Wilder didn't seem in any kind of rush to fix it.

Get up to the Premier League. Get some quality players. Try and win the FA Cup or League Cup.

See Wigan, Birmingham City, Leicester, Swansea.

These arguments were always going to happen if we lost. The same way arguments would be had if we had played Duffy, O Connell, Sharp or Egan and they had got injured.

I totally get people's anger but Wilder gambled on our 2nd string being good enough to beat a lower half non league side. It should have been good enough too but far too many of them just didn't want to know.

Putting out a team of lesser Championship players who have not played together and promptly demonstrated a lack of awareness of what each was doing is the most obvious ingredients for a cup upset.

Wilder gambled, lost, doesn't take responsibility. That's why I'm pissed off.

And because I'm old fashioned and think that the Cup is worth something.

They should have won agreed and no one is absolving them of blame, but our system is unusual and bar some time on the training pitch, a couple of them are very new to it. Cranie is not a marrauding CB, and Kean Bryan has barely kicked a ball for months. Without that threat, we lose a massive proportion of what causes oppo constant problems. The system was wrong as much as the selection.

I see that as a major worry. We have a system / way of playing which should be mirrored throughout the club so that anyone can step in and cover as required. IF that's not the case and we don't have squad players training to play in the same way the first 11 do, then that would be a huge weakness in the coaching.....IMO I believe the do so I question the mentality and ability of today's team.

And he clearly blames the players rather than accepting some himself :(

Burton are in the semis of the league cup. Anything’s possible once you get to the quarters, and that’s very possible for a top championship side.

What I will say though - this side should comfortably beat barnet.

Of course we should beat Barnet but whilst ever it's not guaranteed then football outside of the premier has a future.

Then at least tell the fans so they don't pay out to watch that shit
We were playing Barnet in the cup while we are 3rd in the Championship- don't pay for that shit.
Next time you are unsure message me and I will tell you whether it's worth it or not ;)

Coutts, Clarke, Freeman, our two new big signings! We didn't put our kids out.
I honestly can't blame Wilder one bit. If anything I didn't want Duffy, Bash and Sharp even risking towards the end.

While I agree, the league is 100% our priority, and not the FA cup, we are a momentum side, and too many changes today may now mean we have our usual slow re-start next week (as we do after every international break). That's why I hoped to see a few more first teamers in the side - so the momentum keeps going.

That might ultimately be Wilder's mistake from today.

Posted after the match. It WAS shit.
Sod all to do with our first team.
If you are happy with how today panned out then good for you.

Treated the competition with contempt.
Should always put a best 11 out. No wonder the cup is losing it's glory.

.......all this on top of the Madine shit.

Chris, it's a good job you're in credit!!! Some of that has been used up today.

Couldn't agree more, we've a good first XI and with the luck of the draw could have got to the latter stages, for once even get to the final.

Much rather United win the FA Cup than promotion to the diving, cheating and money league.

I'm not reading the whole thread because the OP is a load of shit, but resting the players today is absolutely the right call. We have just finished a tough, hectic festive period where we have left ourselves in a good position. If we'd played our first team and picked up injuries the people complaining about the rotation would absolutely be pissed off.

The team that played today were absolutely good enough to win that game.
Clearly not

to say its a meaningless game really pisses me off - I travelled a long way to watch that match today - wish I'd been warned not to bother by SUFC as they weren't taking it seriously....

Nobody made you travel a long way for a cup game against a lower league opposition. the fact that you didn't expect pretty much the exact lineup we fielded suggests you don't know too much about the rigours of a season. After our players have just propelled themselves into genuine contenders for promotion off the back of 3 straight tough wins you think they should risk injury ahead of a MASSIVE run in in terms of this clubs history in a competition were not going to win.

Yes, even Wilder was embarrassed by that performance.

Just because I have an opinion that you don't agree with, you don't have to belittle.
Everyone has an opinion, even if we disagree with it.

Everyone is entitled to their opinions, but in response to anyone saying Wilder shouldn’t shoulder any blame is just wrong in my view. He played 11 players together who have never played a competitive game together before. Some were brand new to the club also. Some have been injured for a long time, the rest just haven’t had any minutes.

The general feeing from the management team today has also made me question how well they prepared the team. I might be wrong of course, but they didn’t seem to give a fuck about the game and I feel like Wilders attitude is “I should be able to stick any old 11 players out there and they should beat Barnet.” Football doesn’t work like that though. The way he blamed ALL 11 players after the game was unprofessional and completely demoralising for them. Does anyone really think that 11 players went out there, knowing they’ve all got a point to prove, and just decided to toss it off?

CW and his team have brought back the good times and I’ve only ever praised them up to now. We are doing brilliantly with the resources we have and they’ve given us our club back. So there’s no agenda for me to have a go here.

Today was just out of order from SUFC and it’s stuck with me.

We should have fielded a better side and put the match to bed before resting key players. We didn't gain much in the end.

The reserve players are clearly not that good, well not as good as an average non-league side, which is a bit disturbing.

This exactly what I've been thinking, without being able to articulate.

Credit where credit is due (and Wilder has huge amounts) but blimey, any criticism and the cult is out in strength.

I know quite a bit thanks Pittsburgh - and I know I expected a lot more from the Blades today

Do you remember when we used to criticise Manchester United for devaluing the Cup. Daft, weren't we? We are doing the same and quite happy about it.
every manager in our position would do exactly the same ,it's a catch 22 if you win you get another game possibly a tougher game with less chance of playing your squad players
Wilder was let down by his players today it's nothing to do with disrespecting the competition

He picked the team.

I think it safe to say, the Cup isn't his (or Clubs) priority, fair enough. I just think it's disrespectful, although having said that, it is understandable with the way football is developing.
