Positives, from an afternoon when there were too many negatives to count:

Kieran Freeman had (almost) the kind of game he became renowned for in L1 promotion year. His touch, decision-making, movement, passing and crossing were all much closer to the standard we know he has within him. When Bash came on, their interplay on the right hand edge of their box was a genuinely pleasing facet of a generally miserable performance. Great to see a proper Freeman performance again. Baldock has been superb in the last few weeks, but we do need Freeman firing and ready to go.

Bash, when he came on (see above).

Dowell looks like he could be the real deal. Bright, sharp, agile, inventive, links play well, eager to get forward. Some of his balls forward were a bit too "9 iron," he drifted out of the game a little in the second half, and like several of our players he cramped up toward the end--benefit of the doubt to Dowell on this, given his recent lack of competitive games, not so sure about some of the others. Interesting that when Duff and Billy came on, alongside Leon, Dowell dropped deeper into midfield. Might Wilder see a role for him there, rather than as a Duff replacement? First impressions suggest he could be exactly what we need.

Can I include Barnet in the positives? Especially their front two, numbers 10 and 27? They looked like doing us on the break repeatedly, and gave our back three a torrid time throughout. With a bit more luck their way, it could easily have been 0-2 or 0-3, and in all honesty we couldn't have argued the toss. Their supporters were great, too. Fabulous scenes at the final whistle. It took me back to see a side that really understands what the FA Cup is all about, and that committed themselves fully to the game and the occasion. It's a shame, and slightly embarrassing, that our team selection, and the performance of most of our players, suggests we are currently incapable of doing the same.

Err, that's it.

Err, that's it.

Plus 90 minutes for Coutts who looked much more his old self and 90 for Clarke who got no service but tried to make things happen.

Eh?? Most on here have been slating Freeman for a poor performance.

Positives:
- Moore got some game time which could be handy if he has to replace Hendo at any point
- None of our first XI got injured
- No replay necessary
- Nobody dived into the Director's Box and chinned Madine (I can see how some might construe this as a negative)
- Our first XI got a nice warm glow from knowing their places are safe

That's an interesting take on Freeman's performance :)

I’d go as far to say that appraisal will be unique!

Fair play. Calling it how I saw it. Not least for the 5 or 6 balls he whipped across the 6 yard line, second half. One of very few of our players, today, for me, who played with any kind of attacking intent at all.

Re Moore. Are you forgetting when he nearly through the ball in his own net!! Freeman was shocking. Looked disinterested.

Fair play. I thought he was poor and has looked poor for a handful of games now. I don't buy this stuff about him not being fit but his touch seems to have deserted him--can't control a ball and passing often wayward.

I must have watched a different game. Only Dowell looked decent and he’s not fit. Should have been brought off after 60 minutes. Rest should be made to run back to the training ground this evening and beat with a large stick. Marvin Johnson is one gash player he should be sent back now.

Only positives today is 1. It's staying lighter for a few more minutes everyday. 2. Newport are beating Leicester 1-0 ATM 3. I have another week off work :p

I didn't comment on his performance and I'm guessing he was a bit rusty. My opinion is that he will benefit from having played today if we do need to bring him on in a League game.

I thought Freeman was very poor. His miss was nothing, shoot or cross, you can't do both. Was better in an attacking sense when we made changes but poor defensively throughout for me. There was a moment where he started doing skill moves in the first half, flicked the ball over his standing foot and dinked it to Coutts or someone and it was pretty neat but I just thought "you can do that but you fall on your arse as soon as you're anywhere near our box".

Dowell was good though but needs time in the system.

Lundstram is good but only for about 7 minutes in the hour. I normally defend him but he's had too many chances now I think. Good utility player but would need to go down a level if he wants to start games.

As for Barnet, excellent. The two players mentioned I honestly think we should have a look at if they play like that every week. Held us off like we were children, pace, awareness, decision making.

Hope they go well next round too, save our blushes a bit but it'd be great to see.

Err, that's it.
Please tell me you are taking the piss with your assessment of Freeman today.....
Have I been WHOOOOOSHED??

The only positives are no injuries, and getting a home defeat out of the way.

Freeman was weird today. Second half put in some excellent balls. But everything else he did was shocking, I just don’t get how he’s suddenly nosedived in form after such a good start to the season.

Freeman was terrible today. Think the opening post must be a parody account.

The biggest positive for me today was the lack of traffic on way home.

Always happy to be wrong. But like I said above, I thought he and Bash provided our only attacking threat at all, second half, and it's been a while since I can remember Freeman getting consistently into that crossing position and banging dangerous balls across the box. The fact that no fucker was able to take advantage of them isn't necessarily KF's fault.

Anyhow, as I say, always happy to accept that my eyesight and judgement are fucked.

I agree about the traffic.

If I was to try to scrape together any other positives, I'll go for.....

Johnson - showed he is no sort of backup to Stevens, and maybe this could prompt Wilder to bring in someone more adequate, before it's too late. He has no positional or defensive sense. He's an attacker. If he's to play anywhere, play him further up the pitch.

Dowell - showed enough in quality and style to suggest he'll be good with a competent team around him.

Freeman's attitude, approach and fitness to me seem.... inconsistent. Bizarre player.

Fair play. I thought Freeman looked knackered, uninterested and sluggish.

Freeman was playing directly in front of me in the first half and I’d say his performance was mainly down to playing without someone like Basham behind him. There were many occasions when Freeman has the ball and he was expecting Vranie to come last him, like Basham does, butnit just didn’t happen which often left Freeman isolated or having to go backwards. On the one occasion when Cranie got down the wing he was able to play a really good ball into to box for Freeman to run on to which led to a corner. I didn’t think it was a coincidence that Freeman looked better after Basham came on.

This isn’t a dog at Cranie, I think he’s decent enough, he’s just a different sort of player to Basham and Freeman has got used to playing a certain way.

Agree with all that Ricky. Can’t work Freeman out.

Johnson, well, wow. Poor beyond belief, so short of confidence.

Johnson looked to me like he was playing to have his loan cancelled.

All about opinions but the two wing backs for me along with Lundstram were utter dross. They were the worst of the starting 11 (but they were all piss poor). If it was possible I would send Johnson back in an instant. I appreciate he’s only started cup games and had cameos but he’s done absolutely NOTHING since he’s been here.
He made a good interception when a goal looked on second half but was almost invisible going forward
