Angry at Wilder today

Glad I didn’t go today and pay my money to see a second string play in a game which the management couldn’t care less about.

Wilder doesn’t bother with the cups which I find a little disappointing. 10 changes shows he couldn't care less about it.

Fully expected wilder to make changes like said above 5/6, not 11 this gamble did not pay off, I know people may say we need to rest players after a busy Christmas fixture list, but our next game is 6 days away!

No problems with the starting 11 he selected - it should have been more than adequate.

His substitutions though..... absolutely wank. For a change.

Washington was looking like the only one who could control the ball and run but then Wilder takes him off before we start to have any meaningful possession. Incredibly frustrating for him. Was never going to take his Leon off though was he...

And why no changes were made at half time is beyond me. How much time do you think we have, Chris? How wank do you think Barnet are?

I don’t want to get into personal battles with anyone on here. You’ll all see I’m not a regular poster, or a knocker of the club or whatever other type of characters you get on here.

However I need to get it off my chest how pissed off I am and this place is probably the best place for it. I hope people at the club read stuff like this and know how I feel.

The FA Cup is/was the elite club competition, something to be proud of winning or even being able to compete in for the lower league clubs. What happened today will not be forgotten by me if we beat QPR, or the pigs in a few weeks or even if we get promoted.

I think more of the game of football than that. It’s not only us, Man Utd probably started this all them years ago by pulling out to play in some corporate competition overseas, something I’ve never forgotten nor forgiven them for.

Now my own club have done it, shown disrespect to such an extent that I’m ashamed of them. I’m a realist, I didn’t expect the first 11, but I hoped for it. Maybe one or two changes. But that today has really pissed me off and it won’t be forgotten.

Take the piss and call me all the names you like.

I am with you 100%.

100%

Chance of winning cup - 0
Point of risking injuries - none.
League priority by a million miles - yes.
Will moaners stfu if we beat QPR - of course.

Why are our chances of winning the FA Cup = 0

We have reached the semi finals of one of the major cup competitions 6 times since 1993 and with the exception of 1993 we've done it with a squad no better than this one

Agree 100%, but would add the disrespect started before the team selection. Closing 2 stands saves a couple of hundred quid but sends a big message.

Agreed 100%.
I’m so angry that wilder and his players decided to treat a game of football in this way and disrespect the FA cup.
I would hope that wilder and the players would be hurting right now??. I sincerely doubt it though and they won’t give a shit that they’ve been beaten by a lower non league side at home!!!.
Thank fuck I stayed at home. UTB

The FA Cup was the elite competition because of how much football was on TV. The Cup Final was a big event because there was hardly any football on TV.

You can watch football nearly every day if you want, so what makes the FA Cup early rounds more special than say Man City vs Liverpool on Thursday night compared to Newport vs Leicester which is on the BBC right now? The casual arm chair fan wants to see the top players and big games but unfortunately for the FA Cup there isn’t much of that until the latter rounds.

Treated the competition with contempt.

Not only did the manager treat it with contempt the players did and also the fans. We all got what we deserved today.

We all say it doesn’t matter but when that draw is tomorrow we will all be gutted we are not in the hat. I for one was thinking a good draw in the next round.

West Ham at home something like.

I think I’m more annoyed at the players who were given a run out. They gave the impression that they thought it was going to be a walk in the park. Nothing more upsetting for a fan than to see that.

How many times have we won it since 1993?

That's exactly my point
We've done very well in cup competitions when we didn't have a decent team

With a decent team we should be looking to go as far as possible

This Sheffield United team if it was playing in 2014 would have had an even better chance of beating Hull City

Yeah a few of them won't play again for us. They've blown any chance of Wilder calling on them unless there is a serious injury crisis.

I have to say too that I wish we had kept Lafferty and sent Johnson back. If Stevens gets a long term injury we will be struggling.
Shocking wasn't he. Even before he cramped up on 70 minutes. Was clearly bollocked at half time as he came out waving his arms about at Bryan and Coutts as if he couldn't understand why.

Would we have shown as much disrespect to the FA Cup if it had been Man City at home?
Everybody would have wanted to play and would wilder still picked that lot today?
The league yes is the priority but we did have a chance of winning the FA Cup this year just as everybody else in the competition has.
Dog shit on every level today and got what we deserved.

It's not just the club though.os ot? There was only 7k ish blades in, and it was £10 and £1 concessions. Plenty are guilty of sidelining it.

All about opinions, but we have a very good chance of promotion this year, Wilder has put us in a very good position at this stage. Personally I would prefer we did not risk that chance with a very, very tiny chance we could win the FA cup. Yes we could’ve gone a decent run and obviously the semis aren’t out of the question but to actually win it, it is so unlikely and not worth risking our chance at promotion.

Imagine we played Norwood today and he broke his leg, or same applies to JOC, Hendo or Egan. Long term injuries to these players would have a serious impact on or squad and chances or promotion. Not worth it imo.

With the cup unlike the league you don’t get anything for runner up.

Good post and I 100% agree on the sentiment of the post. I’m more embarrassed than bothered myself but I genuinely have very little affinity to the FA Cup since it’s become a 2nd team competition up until the Quarters when the big boys start to put a decent team out.

We made the mistake today of thinking we were one of the big boys and we could afford to play whoever we wanted to. We can’t, we aren’t good enough.

Yeh because of what it’s become. It’s on a par with the JPT. Why turn up to watch when you know we won’t be going all out to win a game? That’s not sport. That’s not competition.

How many times have we won it since 1993?

if thats the case lets scrap the fa cup & have a 6 team group stage between the big 6 teams. lets tell barnet Oldham (potientally) newport. Sutton & lincoln from 2 years ago whats the point your not going to win

I'm not reading the whole thread because the OP is a load of shit, but resting the players today is absolutely the right call. We have just finished a tough, hectic festive period where we have left ourselves in a good position. If we'd played our first team and picked up injuries the people complaining about the rotation would absolutely be pissed off.

The team that played today were absolutely good enough to win that game.

I would have expected him to rest a few - maybe 4 or 5 - but to change 10 was ridiculous. Wilder has to take some of the blame for today. As for the players, most of them demonstrated why they were so cheap.

Great season so far overall but that was a disgrace.

Scenario
A Championship is drawn at home to a mid table non league club.

Question
If they team is chasing promotion then do you play your strongest team or give 1st team players a rest?

Answer
Let’s be honest here, our reserves should be beating a non club.
It was quite recent that we beat league 2 Leyton Orient 6-0 in the cup.

Conclusion
A good manager should be resting as many 1st teamers as possible as long as he’s confident the understudies can win.
The weak team selection today was understandable, somehing that 90% of professional managers would do.

Don't have a problem with Wilder making the changes he did. It's straight after the busy festive period and the league is far more important.

Those 11 that played today should be more than capable of beating a non-league side. It was a pathetic performance.

Is that all football is to you - the trophy in the cabinet? What about the games along the way, the high points, the great goals, taking on bigger teams, being in the draw.....
