Not opening the Kop

It's not only the advantage of a bit of vocal backing, it's also quite disrespectful to treat it like a JPT game.

South Stand seemed packed today. There was easily enough demand to open the Kop.

What would it have cost?

Great decision. Fucking cheapskates.
Would’ve been amazing to have 3 empty home sides instead of two?

9906 turned up, I don’t know how many Barnet brought but I’m guessing there was no point opening the kop

More than enough demand? We didn’t even sell 1/3 of the ground... no wonder they treated it like a JPT game.

Surprised we opened two stands

It's not just SUFC closing stands. It has been the theme all weekend with the media. Clubs closing stands due to poor attendances.

Until the FA start showing the competition some respect the clubs won't either.

Opening the Kop would have also attracted more to attend.

There's that possibility to claim your ST seat isn't there, with cards activated and no fucking around getting a ticket?

Ha, give over.

Unless by "more" you mean another 20.

More would have attended.

In any case, 2000 off the South Stand and onto the Kop = better support and the feeling of a proper game.

Or a dilution of the concentrated support that we did have in the ground.

And considering you slag off the fans week in week out for not creating enough noise, it's weird that you all a sudden have faith in them to make the difference to a the most dogshit performance of all dogshit performances.

It could have only helped.

Not sure I agree. We didn't sell the two stands out so why did we need to open the kop? The demand for tickets isnt there at all. 9.9k fans there today with how many from Barnet, 700to900?

Only 26k fans have been to the 2 games in Sheffield this weekend. 5k of those were from Luton and Barnet

Can’t we just blame Lunny and Clarke.

Lot easier :)

A 10,000 attendance is enough to justify opening 3 home stands, even if it would be sparsely attended in places.

Give me 3 stands open with a few empty seats instead of closing the main vocal stand and making it feel like a reserve game.

Opening it wouldn't have made the slightest bit of difference unless 5 or 6 of the players decided they wanted to sit in it rather than 'play'.
I'm pretty sure that Lundstram was sat in K103 most of the game...

Too many changes ultimately cost us. Cranie and Bryan weren't good enough to fill Basham and O'Connel's boots, Cranie was the better one though. Then we've gone from a midfield of Norwood and Fleck to Coutts and Lundstram. We missed all the fluidity and the fast paced build ups.

Freeman was awful today. He looked disinterested. Johnson equally as bad.

Hindsight is wonderful but if we had lined uplike this, I feelwe would've won convincingly:

Moore
Basham - Stearman - Cranie
Baldock - Coutts - Norwood (or Fleck) - Johnson
Dowell
Clarke - Washington
Our right hand side was shocking. The left hand side even worse. I think Norwood or Fleck would've helped bring others into the game more. We missed Basham immensely

I just can't believe in this day and age they forcibly remove the vocal chords depending on turnstile. Those poor Kop dwellers must have wondered what was happening as they had their voices taken from them.

"Cheapskates" perfectly sums the club administration up. Saved a few quid on stewarding through not opening the Kop and in so doing, made a complete meal of getting just under 10,000 fans into the ground.

I'm a South Stand season-ticket holder, and having bought my own seat, found that another Blade rocked up with a paper 'pay on the day' ticket for my seat. And I wasn't the only one with a double-booked seat. Meanwhile, at the turnstiles, there was a steward who was letting people in by releasing the turnstile with a key because their season ticket cards weren't letting them in. He said that loads of fans were finding that their season ticket cards weren't working today.

As far as the merits of opening the Kop go, I appreciate that people have different views, but personally, I believe that even if we have only 2-3,000 in the middle of the Kop for these Cup games, it will be beneficial to the team to have an end to attack and it could only have helped today. Having the entire home support on the side of the pitch, at a ground where traditionally the fans are used to the majority of vocal support coming from an end, basically took the home crowd out of the equation completely.

The FA??

Our Club has shown the cup no respect today. Am moving from sadness to anger on this one.

Memo to self.. nobody really gives a fuck about the Cup, for all their "Sky TV is shit" all that really matters is promotion to PL.

I think a few Koppites on the South Stand got confused and forgot to sit down at the first chord of Annie's Song. Maybe not used to the legroom or something.

Exactly.

And the club need to get their act together with the ticketing. The cards have been in long enough now, they should bloody work when they're supposed to be 'activated'.

For games like this generally, shouldn't it also be more than 1 ticket per customer? And shouldn't they have easier pay on the day facilities? Or would that be a huge security risk with those nasty Barnet fans choosing to go in the home end rather than one of the thousands of empty seats among their own fans...

We could get a lot more fans attending than we do for games like this.

Remember the days standing on the kop for jpt games with only a few thousand in attendance. Closing the kop for an fa cup game is ridiculous just to save a miniscule amount of money.
