If what I read regarding the case is true then he deserves to be locked up- causing a death should not be regarded as anything other than shocking and if so 32 months is quite lenient!

Oh great, Fat boy will already be tapping his fat little fingers onto his daily mail keyboard...

also reported on bbc news. wont he be out in 16 months tho?? less with good behavior?? my knowledge on the law is very limited.

UTB

Guess we'll be terminating his contract then?

From what I saw of him he wasn't the best player and highly unlikely he would've made any impact.

The new/younger Lee Hughes

Well that's his career ruined.

But when you're reckless with yours/others' lives then you take the consequences of it.

not very nice to see anyone get sent down but i heard the guy he killed was on a phone aswell but nnot very nice at all

The general rule is that you serve half your sentence so he should be out by Feb 2011.

Whilst its obviously awful for the guy who was killed and his family and I appreciate JR had to be punished, do people not have a feeling not have any feeling of "but for the grace of God..."?

Anyone who has driven will have done something dangerous whilst driving which could, had the circumstaces been wrong led to a tragedy. 9,999 out of 10,000 nothing happens and if you do get pulled over is a fine and some points.

It's all very sad.

Absolutely true Dazza, I thought he claimed he was fiddling about with his MP3 player when the crash occurred, what with Radios, CD Changers, MP3 Players, Sat Navs, and the Phone on Hands Free, its a wonder there arn`t more like this.

Anyway, even being inside he should be able to continue to train with Blacky and the 1st Team, just lump it over the wall ;)

Agreed Darren it seems people seem very judgmental on this yet I bet near enough to a man everyone of them has answered the phone, gone looking for a CD, while doing over 70 on the motorway.
Jordan was called back to the Lane despite being on loan at Southampton in the morning and this happened while driving back home. He wasn't drunk, he didn't flee the scene he was just driving too fast.

Terrible shame for the guy who lost his life and also for Jordan who actually is a nice kid who is rightly remorseful about the whole thing.
Comparing this incident to the Lee Hughes case is just wrong though they aren't even close for comparison.

I can see Fat Sams headline now.

"Blades Get Away With Murder!"

Darren, I have driven hundreds of thousands of miles over the years in my "on the road jobs" tuning radios, opening bottles etc etc and you are 100% correct.

I used to be quite impatient about being stuck in traffic jams until I saw them taking out the bodies from an accident that cause a hold up, I thought, as you rightly said , there but for the grace of God. Also I may be late but i am going home to my family. I am not impatient anymore.

was wondering other day when the trial was,saw Jordan sorting some tickets for people outside the Lane tues night

Whilst I agree with the fact that most people have fiddled with iPods, radios, mobiles in cars and it was an accident waiting to happen, hasn't it been reported on Hallam FM news that he was driving at 124mph at the time?

If he was driving at 124mph, he deserves everything he gets ten times over. That is a ridiculous speed even if you are concentrating never mind if you're fiddling around.

EDIT: http://www.thisisleicestershire.co....er-jailed/article-1387102-detail/article.html

Confirms 124mph. No sympathy for him and Blades need to terminate his contract immediately. We can't have any more to do with him.

Considering all the vitriol against Paddy for using the wrong cough mixture I'm surprised people don't want Robertson hung.

It doesn't matter anyway people don't get 'punished' in this country anymore anyway they get 're-habilitated' because they have 'rights' bless em, take the people that killed that baby, they'll get protected on the inside, let out and given new identities. This country is to fucking soft because of the loony fuckers that run it.

Punishment is one thing. Retribution is another. I think you are mixing up your desire for the latter with the fact of the former. Lady Justice is blindfolded, not wearing a horned helmet like you seem to be. You make Ghengis Khan look like a moderate.

In the main the legal system works well and people do get penalised and deprived of their freedom for appropriate times. Maybe you think we should cut their hands off instead? Punishments in themselves dont stop people doing stupid things against the law. When you could be hung for stealing a sheep, people still stole sheep.

You might think of people with an alternative view as 'looney', but consider this. If prison is a deterrant, why are they full? If prisoners are rehabilitated, why do so many of them end up back there?

From the OS.....

Sheffield United today issued the following statement after the detention for two years and eight months of reserve striker Jordan Robertson, who admitted at Leicester Crown Court causing death by dangerous driving of Omar Mohamed.

A spokesman said: "There are no winners here. This is a terrible tragedy which has affected both families and loved ones. With the conclusion of the hearing the natural cause of justice has taken place and our thoughts remain with both families."

If deprived of their freedom means a cosy cell with access to Tv/Radio/ internet and playstations etc then you've got a point. I say that in certain instances people should be left to rot in a cell and just fed bare minimum, I say Police should be able to walk round our streets and be respected like they used to. When I was a kid the teahers at my school weren't afraid to punish bad behaviour,Police were feared by most teenagers. What now? Parents marching round to schools protesting at their kids getting detention or 'shouted' at in class. No respect in this society anymore.

the statement should have also have said we are ripping up his contract. stupidly taking a cough medicine is 1 thing but driving at 124 mph whilst pissing about with an i-pod is something else.

Was he driving at 124 mph??

Not seen that anywhere.

Is this a fact?

If not surely in cases like this we should stick to facts!

Can we please not speculate beyond the actual facts of the case please... wouldn't want the legal eagles calling.

Cheers

thisleicestershire.co.uk has an article.

"Alan Murphy, prosecuting, said the high speed crash was captured on CCTV and he was calculated to be travelling at between 122 and 124mph."

So the facts are that he was travelling at that speed. Either way, he's killed a man. I'm sure he didn't mean to, but had he been travelling within the speed limit and paying attention to what he was doing then both families wouldn't be in the situation they are today. He has nobody to blame but himself, and I believe that United should terminate his contract immediately.

I was in no way trying to defend his actions we just need to be stating facts in cases like this.

At those speeds no ones reactions are good enough to avoid problems even without playing with gadgets!

was only stating what had been printed in the paper! 122-124 according to that. 50 above the limit.

united have no choice but to tear up his contract.

I just had not seen any facts.

But if it is the case I agree he should be gone.

Sad stuff!
