Pre West Brom Interview....

Unless there's a great opportunity that presents itself for a permanent, then loans are sensible in our current position.

If they're decent ones of course.

This is what most clubs do in January. The permanent market is really difficult in the upcoming window and the only realistic targets are from the league below which, as we we saw last season, is a gamble.

The issue is how competitive we will be in the loan market. I'm not expecting a huge Abrahams type signing but I'll be disappointed if we end up with an untried 18 year old.

Norwood gives me hope. If he's unwanted by mid bottom Brighton, there must be plenty of great players wanting to prove themselves.

I'm wondering how the Woodburn situation will affect things, will it be more "oh, they might not play me, I'm not going" or "I'll show that I've got more than the highly rated Woodburn if I can go there and get minutes" or whether it won't factor in.

Good luck in finding one of them mate , better the devil you know. McCabe may not be chansiri you want but he keeps us safe.

Mate there is plenty of them one just took over villa and Wigan and forest and wolves in the last 2 years .
And I’d say we’re just as attractive as them

Jermain Defoe - Loan until end of the season
Luke Freeman - Loan with a view to permanent if we are promoted

Why would QPR let Freeman go when they will feel they are play off contenders and especially why loan him. They don't need to.

I’m not even suggesting spend millions like a Wednesday or a brum so it’d be go up or go bust. Just a bit of healthy investment in the club from a sensible ambitious owner
Mccabes sensible but he doesn’t have any money.

I highly doubt we’d have been able to sign Egan and Norwood without selling brooks.
Until the owners squabble is resolved in May it’s a bit shortsighted to think either will sanction decent sums on 2-3 year contracts.
They same applied in the summer (the Brooks sale slightly altered that)

Agreed the sooner they sort it out and both sell up the better

They were when they lost in the play offs and should have gone up when Huddersfield did

Luckily they’ve ballsd that up and are more likely to be playing in league one thankfully :)
Exactly what I was thinking, the games against Brighton were crackers, although Brighton should have won. Couldn't believe the no show against Hull and with probably 3/4 of the crowd behind them.
The Huddersfield side they lost to, I believe they beat three times earlier that season.
Outside of the playoffs they were playing some good stuff.

Excited about Tyler Smith possibly getting a chance in the first team. Been scoring for fun at Barrow (albeit at a much lower level), but that first team experience in the men's game will be vital for him.

West Brom might be an excellent game to give him his first Blades appearance too. Their defense is quite leaky so are likely to give away good quality chances.

Is 11 in 26 classed as "scoring for fun"......???

I thought we'd* all agreed that we couldn't afford a proven striker anyway? Given that Waghorn would've cost the lot, went elsewhere and is proving to be a one-season-wonder.

* Except the 'spend it! Spend it all! You must have nothing left,' brigade.

A 19 year old on his first attempt playing in the man's game, scoring almost a goal every other game in what is quite a physical division. I'd class that as scoring for fun.

Test of his character, living 80 odd miles away from his friends & family & he's done exceptionally well. The lad has talent & I certainly won't be upset to see him get a chance at United to prove himself.

Fuck me - we've got a sweaty and at least one Taff, how chuffing exotic does he want to get?

No sales and 3 loans who can actually contribute works for me. Our permanent signings in the last Jan window didn’t work out. Prices in Jan are usually inflated due to desperation so, trying to put a positive spin on it maybe it might not be the worst thing.

But there’s no guarantee we’ll get who we want - it’ll be young players or Prem reserves. Everyone knows who they are

Looking at the Barrow comments they had a lad last year who’s now doing well for Hearts I the Scottish Prem. So it’s possible.

Also, while he’ll be against better players he’ll also get much better service. Fingers crossed he can make at least a modest contribution in the next 6 weeks (5 sub apps, 80 mins, 1 goal, 1 assist?)

That play offs Huddersfield won it was the worst I’ve ever seen four teams who would probs be bottom half in any different season

Norwoods a permanent not a loan and we sold Evans and Leonard to pay for him
Norwood was a 5 month loan with a permanent move agreed in January, and we could do exactly the same thing in January if the right player comes along. Hopefully the owners will have got their shit together come June.

Martyn Waghorn on loan from Derby,

Not good enough for them but you never know he might just suddenly spring into life for us
It would be a sufficiently boring signing as well so as not to cause too much excitement and enthusiasm

We can't have that, it's not allowed

If we don't make any permanent signings, that's me done. But if we sign any loan signings and they are shit, that's me done.

No doubting at all he has done very well, otherwise he wouldn't have been recalled and immediately included within the first team squad unless there is another reason for his re-call.....but that remains to be seen!

No the singing was a permananent just made a loan due to the window closing early but the loan one staying open
We’ll only be signing loans as said
