Just seen this headline on the BBC Sport web-site. I thought the Alzheimer's was kicking in, as I could have sworn we were drawn against Barnet, and I couldn't see why we would have 6 players missing. Fortunately, it's the Ladies team being discussed - the game is at 7 in Manchester, and some of the team can't get away from work in time. It will give them a really tough time, as they will have to play an inexperienced team against Man City, who are extremely strong.

This really sucks. A great chance to play a top team and they have miss out because Man City won’t change kick off and their employers can’t let them leave early.

Not clever from any angle.

I see that more and more these days - headline writers not distinguishing between the male and female game, perhaps trying to be PC but simply causing confusion
And also not distinguishing between sports. On the radio 'England now ranked third in the world' often turns out to be women's rugby league or some such...

If anyone thought the men’s team were actually playing Man City in the Cup, they’re not exactly a massive football fan in the first place.
Plus the story is marked on the BBC site with a link to “Women’s Football” underneath so it’s pretty clear.

The BBC should stop pretending that anyone who isn't the rare yank fan of actual football would be interested in the women's game. It's not tennis, it's football. The blokes had a 100 year head start.

Can't really blame Man C considering we only informed them of the issue last week.
No, blame whoever organised the fixtures. They’re obviously part timers with jobs. Or do the silly old fuckers at the FA think it’s 1965 and they’ll only have their husband’s tea to cook?

Would be easier if they called them Woman City..,

I've not seen womens football before so I'm tempted.

It might sound a little ignorant, but when they receive the ball do they have to stand still until they've passed it?

This sort of thing happens in non league football from time to time.

It gets zero publicity.

The forced agenda to promote women's football which gets lower than leagues below the conference national crowds is what gets me.

If McCabe loses in court I hope we are not saddled with the costs of a woman's side.

According to Man City's Blue Moon forum we were losing 6-0 at 78 minutes.

To be expected. Midweek games aren't good for the team, they have to work, come home and cook tea, iron and put kids to bed. Never going to work.

You’d really expect any employer to have a bit of sympathy though wouldn’t you?
I cant imagine this happens regularly, so in the circumstances, surely they could have let them have a couple of hours off and make it up at a later date ? Miserable bastards!

Must all be employed in the S6 region of Sheffield

If they are wearing the red and white and called Sheffield United, then whether they are the under 8’s, the staff kick around team, the first team or the ladies then they get my full support. I want Sheffield United to create a dynasty and be an influence in every aspect of the world.

A lass at work used to play for the Donnie Belles when they won the league and used to commute from Birmingham to Donnie to play. I don’t think she even got paid her expenses and they won the league. Thankfully things have moved on and I want United to be a part of that..

Up the Blades (wherever they play)

True. But I wonder how they would have reacted if a TV company had offered money to show the game live at 8.00.

Grow up nobodys interested thats why only England wanted the euros.
To get people there they'll be giving all the school kids tickets just to get anyone in the stadiums

Sorry but I think you are wrong, Uncle Mick. I only have a certain amount of time to dedicate to footie but, if I had more, I would certainly apply it to Women’s Footie. It is not all about strength and cheating by diving, albeit does happen. They have a way to go to catch up (and I hope they never do) but it is enjoyable to watch and I for one like it while not going out of my way to become involved. Also, if it says SHEFFIELD UNITED on it, like it even more!

All sports start off as minority interests. Some make it big, some don't. Women's football might, but it is certainly worth promoting, because the world is changing. I don't know whether your 'Grow up' comment was serious or just meant as a joke, but if it was serious, I think it is misguided. The role of women is changing rapidly, and it is something we (men) will get used to. And especially if you have daughters or granddaughters, you will celebrate the changes. If it's just a joke, apologies.

Nothing like embracing the 'family club' feel is there!

The fixture and time were announced a year ago! If the Sheffield United players couldn’t make arrangements before now to be available then it’s a bit of poor planning on their part imo. What would happen if 6 of our men’s team said, “Sorry, can’t do 5.30pm at Reading on Saturday?

I know there’s a difference between being a full time pro and women’s part time football. But if Women’s football is to ever be taken as seriously as men’s football then being available to play matches wouldn’t be a bad place to start. We can work on the other stuff, like lack of skills, later?
