Am i wrong though? If so why.
This has been discussed several times. It’s common knowledge that McGoldrick is never going to score many goals otherwise he’d cost well over 15 million and be playing in the PL. We could easily bring in a better goal scorer than McG but overall quality and awareness would be much worse unless we pay 15 to 20 million.
So if he’s poor at putting away chances then how come he’s spent his whole career at a decent Championship level?
The answer is that his quality, control, hold up play/ link play, intelligence is PL level.
The big issue is if you play a Cardiff/ Bolton style then McGoldrick would be ineffective as his strengths would be wasted
But if a team likes to play a passing/ possession game with overlapping fullbacks then McG complements that style.
The key is having other players around him who can score. We are one of the highest scoring teams so his inclusion has improved us.
People have this incorrect black and white view that a striker only needs to score to deserve a place in a team. However it’s a team game, if a striker links the play, sets up goals but never scores resulting in plenty of wins, then surely you would still play that striker.
