Team v Leeds

All of a sudden this has become a bit tricky.

Lundstram and Washington staking a claim by being key contributors to a performance more like what we’re used to seeing.

Freeman only made the team due to Baldock being ill, however I still think Freeman was poor by his standards last night and if Baldock is fit I think he will play.

The key areas then;

• The front two
• The midfield 3 (Duffy v Lundstram)
• Right wing back

Thoughts?

Id go Baldock, Duffy and Sharp/McG up front.

I think Washingtons performance last night gives him a real chance of starting against Leeds. It'll be a similar type of game to the Brentford one & having his pace as an outlet might just sway it in his favour.

I think McGoldrick might need a rest & Clarke was a real pest when he came on. Baldock in for the mis-firing Freeman & then Duffy in for Lundstram.

Freeman is currently the biggest sticking point for me. He has been so poor recently he must be taken out of the team. Last night I think we won despite him, not because of him (which sounds a lot more harsh than intended). Time to freshen that position up for while.

I’d be inclined to start Washington over Billy, give him 45-60 mins and get him to run his bollocks off. Same with Duffy. It’d give them something to worry about at the back.

But I think we might start Billy ahead of Washington.

I am confused. How was Lunstram a key contributor to last night? You didn't know he was on the pitch most of the time.

Fans now view him not doing anything wrong in a game as a benchmark for a good performance. He didn't have any major impact on last nights win. He was just steady away, didn't do anything brilliant didn't do anything wrong.

In terms of making an impact on the game the other two in midfield were head and shoulders above him.

I want all United players to do well but these tinted glasses some fans wear when watching Lundstram is ridiculous.

I'm no fan of Lundstram and cant say his appearance on the team-sheet filled me with confidence. However, he put in a confident performance, looked a lot fitter and sharper than usual. Kept the ball ticking over and provided the platform which allowed Norwood and particularly Fleck to influence the game further forward. His contributions in defence too cannot be overstated, providing much needed support to an under performing Freeman.

So, with no glasses on, I can confidently say he was a key contributor last night.

Theres a reason why Billy and Duffy were rested last night. Our leading goalscorer and most creative player who caused Weeds problems in both games last season. No brainer for CW on those two starting. As for Freeman and McGoldrick both look in need of a rest but training the rest of the week will determine whether Baldock and Clarke start in their places.

The answer is fairly obvious - play them both . Based on last night's performance and with Duffy just behind , Washington could prove to be the perfect foil for Billy and create more space for him to ply his deadly trade .

After his performances last night and against Rovrum , McGoldrick deserves no more than a place on the bench . For those who consider this to be the ultimate heresy and that he is the reincarnation of Dennis Bergkamp , I would simply refer you to Deadbat's summary of his performance in last night's game , with which I agree 100 %.
