FFS I wish they'd announce these things earlier, booked something else for that evening

I'll be going, be nice to meet some of you. Feel free to come say 'hi'.

Very much a 'heard it all before many times' about this.

If Simon Tracey was there it'd have a Gamblers anonymous feel to it....

Without the Anonymity.

Me and my brother are going, bought the tickets two weeks ago. Looking forward to hearing about Carl Bradshaws love of Carlton Palmer.

Well this was a really good night. All 3 lads on top form. Highlights included some memorable tales of Billy Tightshirt, chat about THAT away win at Swillsboro' and how Dane rejected Birmingham City thanks to reassurance from Spackman that he was still in the first team picture.

The most startling realisation for me and I'm sure a few others, was that in 93 at Wembley, Dave Bassett really did pick his favourites and (as we know) there was no place for Sheffield lad Bradshaw. He explained how gutted he was and that Dave has since admitted he got the team selection wrong that day. Bradshaw sounded genuinely dismayed at reliving this memory.

Bradshaw and Dane picked beating the pigs 3-1 with that Bobby Davison brace as their career highlight whilst Mitch Ward went for his cameo against Blackburn in the quarter finals of the cup.

Dane and Mitch both picked Glyn Hodges as the most technically gifted player they ever played with at United whilst Bradshaw went for John Gannon.

All 3 of them said the Wendy player they most hated was pinhead aka Carlton Palmer who was always boasting about how much money he was on and how much his house cost!

There were many amusing stories throughout the 2 hours and I was really pleased I went. Had a good chat with them afterwards and it really is impressive how much of an interest they all take in the current side...Mitch thinks we are a striker short of automatic promotion and suggested: Jason Defoe (not a typo).

I was intrigued by Bradshaw’s comments about the Fa Cup Semi Final team selection.

So I looked into what the team had been prior to that match and Bradshaw hadn’t been a regular starter pure and simple.

Gage was the first choice right back and Carr was the first choice right winger. Including in the 6-0 home win v Spurs only a month earlier.

So it wasn’t a case of Bradshaw being in the team and then suddenly dropped for the big match. I imagine Gage and Carr would have been equally gutted to have missed out and with much more justification.

Besides, which manager doesn’t pick his “favourite” players for the biggest games? As in the players who he thinks are best and most likely to get a result?

I was pissed off that Gannon was picked

I was pissed off that Gannon was picked

Gannon had played in the previous game which was a 3-1 win away at Coventry.
The other options were probably Hoyland, Hartfield and Rogers.
What would your choice have been?

I’m really gutted I wasn’t home for this. These three lads were fantastic at the time. Bradders and Hodges my favourite players with Whitehouse being just behind

I’d have played both Bradshaw and Hartfield at Wembley, both would’ve been close to red cards given the significance of the game.

Bradders was a more reliable winger than Carr. And I’d have had him playing in front of Gagey.

Hartfield was suspended (he was playing well at the time), I would have had Beesley at left back and Dane in Gannon's position. Gannon was in the same area where Waddle was playing in and Waddle had an easy time.

Bradshaw wasn't playing on the wing much at that time. He'd been moved back to right back. Gage was a better right back.

Carr was playing well around that time, and of course he laid on our goal.

Those were defensible choices IMHO.

I always felt Bassett's mistake was not having Whitehouse further up the pitch. The biggest handicap that day wasn't that decision though - it was Deano having a shocking game. Anderson and Palmer shackled him throughout.

Could you elaborate on: the billy story, I love a billy story. Who was the favourite who played ahead of Bradshaw? (Did he play Carr in that game?) how much was Palmer on compared to our lads? I remember bradshaw saying he was on about £600 p/w in our relegation season before he went to Norwich.

Bert recalls Deane missing the header when they scored the winner.

Basset might have got the team selection wrong, but make no bones about it, Bradshsaw wouldn't have made any difference.

We were second best all over the pitch and had it not been for Kelly it would have been 5/6.
Pemberton was the only other Blade that played well that day.

Had the ref saw Palmer's handball in the dying minutes of normal time then Deane would have had the penalty!

completely agree, felt it was probably Deano's worst game for us throughout his great times with us , just was never in the game
Talk about segregation these days and how much SYP insist on , i remember a fat twatty pig sat next to me on his todd surrounded by blades that day!
horrible game
