CCFPA would like to wish Coventry City’s oldest surviving Former Player (and therefore the Association’s oldest former player member) Colin Collindridge (right) a very, very ‘Happy Birthday’!! Colin was born near Barnsley on 15th November 1920 and is therefore celebrating his 98th birthday today! Colin also holds similar records with his two previous clubs Sheffield United and Nottingham Forest

He looks like he's middle aged when the photo was taken!
Any idea when it was?

Very quick and once broke the net with a thunderbolt
Yes and believe, shoot with either foot. More than likely saw him play. Certainly one of the names whirling around in my head, as a boy, together with Nightingale, Ricketts, Hagan etc. He must have been versatile also as the photo shows him stand in goalie.Collindridge in goal 1948 31 Jan V Man Utd W 2-1 Jones-2 (2).jpg Must also put one in wearing the stripes.Colin Collinridge (2).jpg Happy Birthday Colin despite belatedly. Yes he is. He has been our oldest surviving player since Willis Vaughton (played 3 games for us in 1934-35) passed away in 2007 aged 96
Remember him in 1946 era.
Excellent player who always gave his best and proved a real handful going forward.
If I recall correctly he played on the left, probably in the left wing area which in those days was outside left.
He has got to a remarkable age, I wonder if he is still mobile.

Happy memories.
There was little else to do in those days.

UTB.

Yes Left winger he was. There was a city centre store bearing the same name but I was sorry to learn that it did not belong to Colin
I have a hazy recollection that he had family in Nottingham, and an uncle who was a member of parliament

Good mention of him herem from around the 11:00 minute mark. The whole thing is worth a watch mind - just to see what Biggs does with our medal:

Good article about Colin here.

My favourite bit is

"..Collindridge and Hagan did perfect one double act: ‘After the war Jimmy and I had a routine going that appealed to Jimmy because it meant using his brain.

‘A German bomb had landed on the Bramall Lane pitch and where the crater had been filled in the surface was always a bit soft. I’d manoeuvre my fullback so he was standing on this bit of ground and when he was properly bogged down Jimmy would slip the ball past him for me to run on to."
His uncle was Frank Collindridge. He was the MP for Barnsley from 1938 to until his death during the election in 1951.

"He says one reason why he left United was because Jimmy Hagan was stripped of the captaincy after falling out with the directors. He, Collindridge, was then offered the captain’s role but says he turned it down out of loyalty to Hagan, whom he regarded ‘as the classiest footballer I ever played with or against. And I was lucky because he made me look a good footballer."

Good old United Directors!
What was all that about?
