United Subbuteo team going free...

I had a corner taker. A bit bigger than the other players, the head was pressed and the foot booted the ball. Rules may not have allowed this accessory to be used for penalty kicks.

Also had a goalkeeper that was better than Derek Richardson. Soz Derek, no offence intended.

If you wanted to be the blades now you'd need to have Bolton attacking and proper Blades defending to look authentic. If you see what I mean, sort of.:confused:
 
ANORAK ALERT
I’ve spotted a couple of points that may need correcting, sorry.

1. This team is a hybrid early eighties team. It has the round concentric base, but the earlier 70s teams had the player on a straight edge that slotted into a mini trench. The later mid to late eighties teams had the straight armed less human type of player on the concentric base. So a traditional player on a concentric base like this here was the hybrid version.

2. The corner kickers heads were not pressed. You flicked the head backwards with the body pivoted, thus bringing the leg forward to strike the ball. Absolutely useless in play and bringing on a giant to take your corners looked stupid. From memory I only think they were in blue or red and not striped kits too. However not as bad as the spring loaded throw in players which again just sent the ball anywhere. Pressing heads down was Striker but that was all marketing and rubbish in play.

3. 2 other useless Subutteo games were rugby and cricket. Both never played with after Boxing Day.

The best accessory for playing was the interchangeable goalie as he was longer and had a wider arm reach. Of course the early desso inspired Astro turf was good if you didn’t roll it up.

The best for atmosphere was the streaker, or am I fantasising again.....
 
I ordered this one last week for a christmas present, you can't buy Blades ones anymore unless you have them specifically made:


I also had to order Real Madrid.

I have a Blades team with 9 outfield and a keeper intact players from the 91/92 season, I can still remember going to Toymaster to get them and sticking the numbers on when I got home. I also randomly have England, Scotland and Italy with 9/10 players intact from the same year.

and brentford. yes there was a massive wall chart you could get with all the teams on, had it on my bedroom wall for years

Striker was brilliant spent hours getting the perfect kicking action with my moms nailfile :)
i also had cricket which was a bit fiddly.. in the end we invented our own game that was football on the cricket pitch.. you could go behind the goals like ice hockey
 
I had tons of the stuff as a young 'un, teams accessories but no stand, unless I can count the massive ones me and my brother built out of Lego. I have no clue where it all ended up but I do remember that after a few years the beize pitch had been smoothed out so many times on the living room carpet that it developed some sort of nap to it where you could recreate the appearance of stripes if you had the patience......... so long as you ignored the cocoa stain near the corner flag.
I still have a boxed and barely used Italia 90 set, which was a wedding present from my best man (went down well :eek:) an Astropitch and a few teams from the early 90's, hand painted with our iconic pin stripe red and white home kit and the luminous (not very in this case) away kit. Also, Deano's head was filed down flat on top for the authentic hair cut and I do believe there's a ginger one representing Colin Hill.
 



And come the summer we switched games...

I had them, looked great until you actually tried to use them. Ball went rolling off, put big light on. Ball back on pitch. Turn big light off. One of players gone off pitch, put big light on etc etc. Like doing squat thrusts with a light switch involved.

Thank you for your concern CB but it's just an image I filched from Google. I never owned a Test Match of my own (I had a shitty pocket cricket game which was basically two metal dice in a plastic tube...we relied a lot on our imagination in those days) but played a lot on various mates games. It wasn't a patch on Subbuteo.
The 'stains' are pine knots showing through the thin pitch material by the way.
 
Have these (and others) which are I believe from the late 60's early 70's. You can see that there was a line under the "table soccer" where you wrote the name of the team. In this case my next door neighbour of the time (a jock and a twat) wrote Falkirk. Aside from being a twat he must also have been colour blind or it was the wrong box-top. Anyway, to me they were West Ham and I have resisted the temptation to slowly melt them one by one for some time now.IMG_5276.JPG

Would be banned nowadays.
Instant death if anyone licked the paint off and the keeper stick could be jammed in a childs eye should he have the nerve to score against his Dad
 



I'm sure I painted one with the yellow away shirt and the V s on? Think my brother pinched my stuff when he moved out.
