Give Sir Chris this amount and with 3 quality players brought in the JTW I'm almost certain we will be promoted this season. In the long run it makes sense in money terms for the board don't ya think? ;)

Better get them on then...

Yes, but when you have owners who don't have a spare £20 it's rather difficult.

To be honest I don't think it would take anywhere near £20 million. I think Wilder would be able to find a good quality player for £3-4 million to share Duffy's role and eventually take over from him, and the same amount for another striker. Some players will have only four or five months left on their contracts AT CERTAIN CLUBS ha ha

I can see us getting promoted and lining up next season with a combination of Sharp, Clarke and McGoldrick up front with Duffy just behind them

We could go up as we are.

We probably won't, but we could.

We won't spend much. A player like Defoe isn't completely unrealistic though, and another signing like Norwood would be nice, although I don't think we'll strike gold twice.

Im sure he's doing his research, who's possibly out of contract at the end of the season. THat said, the agents of all those players are probably touting them to all and sundry as we speak.

When you spend big money you pay out big wages.
If we started pushing the boat out and paid 3 players 40k a week thay over £6million per year in wages.

I laugh at your £20 million. I say £90 million will definitely get us promoted*

* Unless signed players either get injured or follow United's usual pattern of record signings turning out to be a little bit shit

Could do with going to look into foreign market for players, quality british players will cost a fortune

£20M doesnt guarantee us promotion. There are clubs who have spent more than that but didnt get them promotion. There are also clubs who have spent less than that but got promotion.

You’re dreaming if you think United will ever spend that outside of the top flight. Fortunately I don’t think we need as much as that to push us over the line.

Difficult to quantify how much as sometimes you can find a world beater for nothing. If I base it on needing a couple more quality attacking players at market value..... £10-12m would be enough.....

Think I’m dreaming now

I'm almost certain

Is IAC the new ITK ?

It's not a gamble it's an investment, luckily it's not your house on the line though.

Great thread on Pork Talk at the moment.

SWFC - The Future. Do we have one?

with a podcast half way down page 3 about how financially screwed they are having spunked all their money on the non gamble.

It's clear we're very close to having a team that could get over the line.

There are no guarantees but this team plays more football and dominates more matches than any I've seen in the near 40 years I've been going to watch Sheffield United.

I believe we will fall short of the top 2 and possibly top 6 currently, as we fail to convert that dominance too often against more mediocre teams let alone our closest rivals at the top end.

Arguing over how much we should spend is largely pointless as we don't know how much we could spend realistically, never mind the oh so predictable boardroom farce that clouds any on field potential st this club.

But hey, let's not consider spending a bit to try and get over the line, and give the best manager we've had in a lifetime the opportunity to take us into the top flight with a style most suited to the PL we've ever had. Clearly some fans find this approach unpalatable as some others have spunked money and failed.

There's usually a foreign market outside the town hall around this time of year, worth a look? I know they usually have had one or two Scandinavian types in the past.

I don’t think anyone finds it unpalatable, just don’t believe it will happen. Personally I want them to spend as much as they can afford without risking our future if we don’t go up.

Wow just listened to that podcast. 2 points:-
1) first time i've ever listened to Grunters who talk sense and aren't entirely deluded and
2) Wednesday are FECKED. :D Hadn't realised just how badly off they are. What a shame :). UTB

No. Too much disruption that.

He needs 1 or 2 max additions.

Both strikers.

Both different.

One tall, physical, brutal, good in the air.

The other a fast little shitwasp.

Love that comment. Sums up the belief and positivity that Wilder has created in his 2.5 years. The man is a legend.
