LB Naysmith (2 games in every 5)

CF Alan Young and Steve Finneston

GK Lee Baxter (bad back from picking the ball out of the net)

AM Lee Hendrie - (emotional issues over recent money loss), Peter Heatherstone (homesick) or David Cairney (on the wrong continent)

Are we talking about Gary "I played pretty much every match" Naysmith?

Exactly the same front two that came straight into my mind too.

Ditto, the worse thing was we didn't have to shell out on either of them as we had better options available on the books already. Finneston signed for around £100k and always injured, Edwards sold for about £50k, much younger, always fit and always scored and would have been on a damned sight less money than Finneston. Young record signing at the time at £160k, arrived injured and carried that on throughout his time at the Lane, replaced Bob Hatton who eventually went to Cardiff that season and helped them get promotion!

And yet I can remember being really excited about the signings at the time.

United just didn't spend that kind of money (some things never change) and they were both players with big reputations.
