found this on twitter, it was a list of 50 biggest British clubs by wages paid. on latest accounts released by clubs figures quoted are based on the most recent accounts, which for us apparently would be 2016/17 when we got promoted from League 1. which I know our budgets have probally increased since but it shows what a great job & how much we have to remember how much he is surpassing expectations when middlesborough in 2nd are on £65m & derby are on £40m. we are there on 10m, might also explain a few problems in buying players in summer transfer window

I know there is silly money about - but how the fuck do Man U spend that??? Do they have about 100 players or summat?

In a perverse way I'm quite impressed. I appreciate that we're a long way off the wages paid by most other clubs, but presumably that will change should we achieve promotion. Of course for now we'll have to wheel and deal, with the promise that if we are promoted then we'll be in a position to pay at a far higher level. All things considered, we've done remarkably well to get this far on so little. What it also explains is that those clubs who've gambled without getting the return they'd hoped for are not far away from falling off the edge of financial cliff's edge. What this does explain is that it's all about personnel, who you employ will make all the difference.

Someone stated that the figures for us were based on the last set of accounts, 2016/17, so when we were competing in the 3rd division.
But it's still a brilliant job because our wages aren't anywhere near the majority of this division.
Biggs thought it was around 17th in this league.

See? Wendy are bigger than us after all. That's another straw for them to clutch the everlasting fuck at. :D
No. We're in fifth place and they are 21st. ;) This could be indicative of our finishing league positions this year, touch wood.

This is what happens when you start to talk about weekly wages rather than yearly. At the moment Alexis Sanchez is on a staggering £350k a week. That's an eye watering £18.2 million a year, for kicking a football about.

That chart is very misleading, those show our league 1 wages, so we should be compared against other league 1 teams. It just demonstrates how we were unable to compete financially with Championship clubs like Wigan when they signed Burn and Morsey.

A Championship club automatically receive an extra 5 million a year from Sky compared to a league 1 club. Our wages have almost doubled since then.

I don’t believe our wage bill was £10m in our promotion season.

Edit, my mistake, they were!

Our wages will have gone up but not a ridiculous amount, that 5 mil doesn't have to go to wages

I smiled at your comment Eddie, it shows a certain age group when the first thing that comes to mind is "Kicking a football about". For that is what it is, ok, the skill levels are meant to be far higher than you or I can achieve (assuming either of us can lift a leg that high!) but the world has turned upside down. I am being a tad over dramatic, other walks of life pay as high if not higher, but as good as Sanchez is, he isn't up there with the very best. For whatever reason he's frozen out of Man U's current side, but I guess on his wage he really doesn't care.

Weren’t all the EFL teams in a higher league than us back then except for basket case Bolton? It’d be good to see the latest available figures.

You'll find out how they spend that amount if United ever decide to try to buy Dean Henderson

the absence of wolves from this list as it was the season before a billionaire changed everything shows how money talks

the top 20 are all on prem tv money , below them is a 20 m gap back to norwich
villa are the exception still throwing money around

We are down as spending 10 m in that season , which a lot on here would argue veheemently to be a big lie

There is a team called Wolves on the list, they spent 28.2 million. Check that out Sunderland fans ;)

Nice to see the pigs spend three times as much as us to be three times worse.

Wolves started their spending spree the season before last, bought Costa for about £14/15m and Cavaleiro for about £8m in 16/17, among others.
