Wigan is a definitely a rugby town!!.’I recall many years ago travelling to Wigan with the blades travel club and the driver mistakenly took us to the rugby ground and had to ask directions from a local for the route to the ground!!!. I think the ground was called Springfield park?. It was a shit hole of a ground TBH. UTB

I have heard stories like this so many times - and not just from Blades fans - that I wonder if anyone ever managed to go to see us play at Wigan without first going to Central Park by mistake.

I have a mate who is a lifelong Wigan fan. They were in the Northern Premier League when he started supporting them.

Springfield Park was a just a volley of stones thrown by both sets of fans throughout the game. Think we won 1-0 Kenworthy ? on the way to winning div 4 and I think they were up there with us. Main memory is watching final score on someones TV through the front window of a house ,about 30 of us in their garden before it all kicked off again. We must have had a name with Rugby League fans what with them ,Huddersfield and Hull ,they all used to turn out for us.

I do, aye. Like you, a thin layer to bond the sandwich together but not too thick so as to avoid the crisps going soggy.

I think any flavour goes well, but cheese and onion tops the list for me. Today was salt and vinegar.
Food hell, sprout flavoured crisp sandwich.

Did it second time we went.
We sat in the stand that time, my mate had damaged his knee, and were horrified to take our seats only to realise you couldn't see the goal at one end due to the end of the stand obscuring the view (and I don't mean a bit of the net, the whole six yard box virtually).
Due to the weirdness of the "downstairs" bit of the stand I ended up having a piss next to Deano (he was in the team) an hour before kick off.

They are a rugby town, always have been, always will be. Hands up anyone who knows, or has spoken to a Wigan football fan ?

Incredibly yes - my brother! He's coming along tomorrow which is useful as I can't drive at the mo and we will be sitting in the BLUT. Looking forward to it!

They're not hugely supported but I reckon this is more down to their away form, they brought around double this number when they last came to the Lane, in what ended as a promotion season for them (and a trudge of shame shit show for us :( )

Crewe was like that too. My mate’s dad used to take us so we were always in the stand with him. If one person leant forward to see, then they blocked the next person’s view and so on.

Nowt to do with Rugby League . Simple fact is that we were a big draw back then and that's why it was always lively at places like Wigan, Huddersfield, Hull , Lincoln, Hartlepool etc etc etc . It felt like their entire towns had turned out to give us a very warm welcome .

The Manchester arms in Hull early 80s ,best ambush ever ,Hull KR through one door ,Hull RFC through the other ,there were some bad boys from Utd in there though and the place really went up ,probably the biggest fight Ive ever witnessed.
