waving automatic promotion goodbye

The stat they were quoting during the game was that prior to last night we'd only lost 1 away league game in 20, basically from the Wendy defeat through to Derby, we'd only lost at Burnley.
I erred of course by describing this as 'a completely new community'. I meant no discourtesy to the original members and hosts of this truly excellent forum.

We should leave BU behind and good riddance. I advocated its closure on many occasions. Why discuss 'Len' at all?

I reply to Darren of course, not Jim. Still getting the hang of this technology!

Lenners is the old "lendegoey1" from BU. He was a much loved character there whose whole persona was based around (a) predicting that United would lose every game and (b) claiming that the end of the world was nigh whenever we lost a game.

He used to wind people up with this attitude until everyone realised that he wasn't entirely serious and that one should deal with his posts in the spirit with which they were intended.

Len is also an intelligent chap with good left wing views and the more you know him, the more you grow to love him...

Len is alright as he can put an argument across without chucking in "cheap as chips" etc and to be fair to him he is consistently negative even if we win.

Those of us who were around pre BU are used to Lenners type characters - we've had our very own BeightonBlade to keep us entertained.

Although I hardly ever agree with a single word these folks say - it's good to have them on here to offer an alternative viewpoint to the contented (and balanced?) majority.

I only started appreciating what these folks bring once I stopped getting annoyed by them! - and I certainly prefer to read their posts rather than the more abusive comments that others occassionally post.

Keep it going lads. I'll usually never agree with you - but I'd happily buy you a jar at the Lion for making our forum lively, thought-provoking and enjoyable! :D

I do not know why we have all this lack of CB cover nonsense. Rednap bought Walker with him in mind to be a future CB. All rate him as that being his position and, as said elsewhere, he did impress when he first played there. So why don't we give him some slack and get behind him on Saturday, afterall nobody was on their game Tuesday so you could have played them anywhere. Hopefully Friday they will be back in the groove.

He may well grow into a great centre-back (i doubt it, but what do I know?).

The issue is however that last night he couldn't play for us at right back, where he has been an almost unqualified success this season, because of an inexcusable shortage of proper CBs in the squad. Not one poster has had a go at Walker as far as I can see.

Seems to me that if Walker had done a good jod at CB on Tuesday he would not have got skinned for the goal or "not win a single header" as said on one of these multiple threads. The theme seems to have been poor play by the back four, Walker by implication, my point is that one poor game does not deny his potential as a great CB. They had a bad game, his career to date suggests he will come through as a CB.

No he won't. He's not tall enough for a start! Basic but accurate.

I don't know where the myth that he played well in that position against Hull comes from, either. I saw the match; he didn't.

I saw the second half of that match and thought he did very well for a kid in his first game in an unfamiliar position.
It maybe that you're more exposed if you make a mistake at centre half than at full back but I wouldn't completely rule out Walker playing in the middle, particularly if Killa goes.
He's stronger than Killa and just as quick if not more so which is what is needed along side Morgan.
But that still leaves the general issue of poor quality cover or no cover at all at the back.

Don't kid us. I for one didn't like lendegoey1's constant whinning on BU.

Teams very very rarely win all the games in a season Len doesn't seem to have the slightest understanding of this fact and only seems to post when we do loose.

He does provoke reaction though - maybe not a bad thing on a forum.

If you're serious about it, you don't go into a match like we did last night.
It's our first league defeat of the season, and we're only halfway through September. That's like chucking your meal in the bin because your third pea isn't very nice.
Were you at the match?

No, didn't go.....
Why not? I thought you were the authority on the Blades? Mind you, if we won the FA Cup I bet you'd be moaning like hell if there wasn't an open top bus parade within ten minutes.

Are you ever happy? Or are you like Eeyore, sat glumly in the drizzle and sucking all the happiness from every situation?

There must have been some rewarding times even in your past, perhaps a satisfying poo or the wonderful memory of your first shag?
Or it that too traumatic, bringing only thoughts of the last vicious curry on it's ring-burning way out, or all the times your blow-up doll popped and the puncture repair kit was lost?

What you have to understand about Len is that he is very superstitous; to the point that he is afraid to say even the smallest positive thing about the club in case it brings disaster for the rest of the season and beyond.

Many of us are like it up to a point (but usually not up to such an extreme point!).

But there is method in his madness. Virtually the only time I can recall any optimism from him was just after we beat Wedneday at Hillsborough during our promotion season. He was cock-a-hoop, and (rashly) made some post along the lines of if we won our next two games we could break out the champagne. Result - we only got one point from our next four matches and were facing the unthinkable prospect of Leeds overtaking us. He quickly switched back into ultra pessimistic Warnock hating mode, and we recovered.

For those that don't know. Lenners is the kind of bloke you wouldn't want to go war with. Within 24 hours he'd be trying to lead his men from the trench waving a white flag. He would also state the enemy were far better organised and sold themselves much better.

New site Lenny, more fuel for the fire. Loving it as McDonalds would say (not Mike though)

No Len was a troll always has been always will be. It was him that partly ruined BU for many and it was actually a blessed relief when BU was shut down as it cut his little ego lifeline. He was a bore and any valid point that he had was soon drowned out by the repetitive rubbish that he produced. I had hoped that he had gone away but at least this board is not so easy to be a troll on as you can't see everyone of his repetitive posts.

Are you sure Len isn't entirely serious? I had an altercation with him a few months ago; I accused him of dishonesty for always predicting that United would lose their next match when he didn't actually believe it would happen. He replied that he genuinely believed that United would lose most of their games.

That's because it would tempt fate for him to admit to thinking otherwise.

Fortunately Newcastle also waved goodbye to the chances of automatic promotion last night.

Not wanting my reputation to slip, you all surely know what's coming up tomorrow night?
The bigger the match, the bigger the disappointment.
And if defensive errors are involved without Killa in the team, it's going to be a long way back for Blackie in the eyes of the fans.

There is no doubt in my mind that from being a really solid unit, the defence against Coventry looked really sloppy. I had thought that the defence was the last part of the team that should be put under the spotlight, but one man's absence, along with Blackwell's decision to upset two positions cost us dear...along of course with sheer profligacy in front of goal, notably by Taylor.
If all this is repeated against Wednesday then it's going to be tough.

For all my criticism of Blackwell's culpable failure to bring in midfield cover [which folly grows more obvious by the hour], I remain confident of a Blades win though not a comprehensive Pig roast.

COYR&WW!!!
