Couldn’t believe how piss poor their following was today .. 350-400 for a team 60 miles away and two sides sharing an old rivalry going back a long time ?? I know they aren’t setting the world on fire at the minute but neither have we over the years but still turned out in numbers but today that was embarrassing on a par with the Peterborough’s or Walsall’s of re en5 times .. as a Blade of whose been attending BDTBZL since 77 that is the worst following I’ve seen them bring , even in the bottom two divisions when we were both shite they’d bring 4 figures . Not slagging off those that were here today as they were the real fans , what makes me laugh is all the fly by nights who were at Wembley 4 years ago giving it large .. where the fk are you now ?? Hmm ... looks like the part timers have disappeared into the woodwork ... strange attendances at the egg chasing have gone up vice versa ...enjoy League 1 again

As John Street sez, even in the early eighties they used to bring a decent following to the Lane for some real grudge matches which had plenty of spice to them and rivalry.

I remember them bringing an good following for the 2-2 draw in 83, and even more for the game 85? When they filled the Lane lower tier terrace and gave Edwards some reight grief... remember them singing classless songs about his wife leaving him and shaggin other men.... still that went well for them as he scored a hatrick that day with the last a penalty in front of them...but back to the subject. They have brought decent followings before to the Lane and we had some top battles with them over the years.

They are now just a shadow of the club they once were. Their 'fans' seem to have latched onto the rugby or the white shite from up the road. Shame in a way, as they had the potential to be a decent working class club from Yorkshire but I suppose they are more interested in oval balls and trawler spotting.

The Blades are different gravy to Hull City.

Hull has always been a rugby town. Their recent (and temporary) uspsurge has seen bandwagon-jumpers join in to see what all the fuss is about (think Sheffield Steelers a few years ago but on a smaller scale). Now the new 'fans' haven't had the experience of the truly bad times, so have deserted them. Good support takes generations to build - the 'like father like son' thing, and Hull haven't had that. They didn't sell their quota for the 2014 semi.

For Hull read Wigan.

Its quite sad, probably going to be similar with Leicester when they eventually drop back out of the Top division.

I'm not sad at all. True support is forged on freezing cold nights at places like Bury, Burton and Rochdale - they'll just have to learn that sunny days at Wembley are very much the exception. Like Blackpool, they haven't earned the right to be in the PL and will soon sink back to where they belong.

I'm sure they'll find other diversions to fill their Saturday afternoons, like looking at their fish tank. Or taking Monkey Dust.

I'm not sad for Hull Tigers, but its a sad state of football, the New Stadia fans, how many clubs have 'gained' supporters when they've had investment in a new ground, new name, new owners... only for it to eventually level off to previous levels.

It mirrors life. These clubs who get rich new owners, a new plastic stadium etc. are 'all fur coat and no knickers'. You often see scrubbers winning the Lottery, buying a flash car and moving to a big house but 'You can take the girl out of The Manor, but...' etc. etc.

It's happening at Hillsborough now. Without the success. :D

The hull fans i met after the semi final were very gracious & so i have no problem. But it amazing in space of 5yrs the gulf between the clubs then & even 2yrs ago under marco Silva now bottom of championship Steve bruce sacked for 2nd time. You wouldnt believe it

In the future, fans won't be important to clubs. They will be replaced by sponsors. If that sounds bizarre then look no further than the Premiership because it's already happening there. A report the other week showed that approximately half the clubs in the Prem could play behind closed doors and still make a profit. The revenues the fans bring in is peanuts compared to what they get from elsewhere, like the TV companies, sponsors, merchandise, etc.

Unless there is a drastic change in the way that money flows throughout the game, we will see the game drift away from the supporters, at the higher levels of the game for sure, maybe not so much for lower league teams who can't avail themselves of the corporate riches so easily.

The risks I see in this is that clubs may neglect their supporters and they'll become disaffected over time. That may not be a problem whilst the club is competing at the top echelons of the game and raking in big corporate money, but the moment that changes and the club drops down a level or two, they won't have the corporate money to sustain them anymore and they'll have lost the core support needed to prop them up.

It's a dangerous game to play imo. But, as in other walks of life, money lures people to do things that aren't right, in order to make short-term financial gains. Money is like a drug, it becomes addictive. It feels so good whilst you've got it that sometimes it's hard to stop and question whether this is the right thing to be doing. I think that's where many of the clubs in the Prem are at right now.

We are unusual in so much as no other professional league club in the country depends more on supporter revenues than us. But that will change when we get to the Premier League. I just hope our principles don't change, because our long term future depends on that.

You would have thought they would have fetched far more though, if only to give them any excuse to leave that shit hole place for a few hours.

Leicester got similar crowds to us in the First Division in the 80s / 90s and duly served time in L1 too. True that tbey picked up thousands of plastics wirh tbe title win, but they have a far larger 'proper' fan base than 'Ull.

A better analogy would be Bournemouth, who will be back to a few thousand after 5 years out of the PL.

Is that when we buy Brookes back?

I thought the idea of protesting against your owners was to not turn up at home games. Didn’t realise it meant away games too.

It's a cruel world.
They're one of those clubs like who used to bob up and down between the 2nd and 3rd divisions with average crowds of 6-7k before they got investment and a new stadium. I used to like Boothferry Park though.
I remember us Blades fans invading the pitch there a few times. The time we won 2:3 on a New Years day I think, if memory serves me right a young Simon Stainrod & Keith Edwards playing. We had the terrace with the train station platform behind it.

This away fixture was brilliant, never missed one through the 80s etc, football special stopped just outside the turnstiles if memory serves me right, it was that popular a fixture many a time I had to go on the normal train to hull and bus it to the ground, a fixture that guaranteed trouble mind.

All clubs have their fickle fans. Some just have more than others.
The Woodwork Wednesdayites who crawl out when their team is doing well are a well known example. We have all met a few of them.

Simple bandwagon stuff...

Pretend fans have gone off to support something else, it’s a shame because that 600 yesterday would have been the ones who were there before the premier league days..

That yeti with the ponytail played well though..

Not many there from Hull, but looked more than 350-400 to me

I would say more like 700
