With all this praise tonight and general respect for United this season it got my mind wondering... If we do make the Prem in May, would we hit the similar levels of respect as Wolves have received this year? In that they play a similar, expansive, exciting, attacking football?

*Don’t want to get too carried away, but having being praised this heavily by away fans so far, can we dream....?

Last season many supporters of other clubs gave us high praise and mentioned how we are one of, if not the, best team they'd seen so far that season. Don't get me wrong, I feel this team has something extra than last season but let's just enjoy these moments and try not to get too carried away.

No, because whilst Premier League clubs spend between £12 and £20 million on average players, we will spend £2 million on four players, if we can get Blackburn, Millwall and Hull to sell them to us in the first place

Opposition fans were shocked at how good we were and very impressed.....but only up to the Coutts injury away at Burton.
Once we lost Coutts were were still decent but never at our fluent best again.
Since having Norwood we’ve starting controlling matches again and looking impressive.

You forgot
Portsmouth giving us a full back on the cheap , a shit midfielder from Coventry who cost us nowt , a crock who was injured from Derby ( ok that was Clough ) , a shit defender who heads bricks for next to nothing , I'm sure I could name a few more clubs where our manager has seen a gem and got them on the cheap and turned them into something special
Along with the millions he has spent on two players last transfer window to bolster our defence and midfield
I trust Sir Chris to spend OUR clubs money as HE sees fit ,
Not a couple of thousand know fuckall managers , sitting in the stands or on keyboards playing Fifa 19
Saying it's easy this manager lark .

The Wolves love-in this season boils my piss because the media seem to be conviniently forgetting that they bought and paid for where they are. Nothing more, nothing less. Chequebook Champions. Financial doping.

Same as Bournemouth. Theres no romance there- they cheated FFP and got away with it because its a nice little southern seaside town where half the FA/PL have retirement cottages.

Huddersfield, Burnley- the proper unfashionable, Nora Battys of the Premier League. They deserve the plaudits. We’d be viewed in that bracket if we got up there, because the national journos, Sky and MOTD see that type of club as a supporting cast, there to be slapped around by their beloved, chosen ones; the Manc clubs; the Scouse clubs; the London clubs; the Geordies and the south coast holiday homers.

Yes,
The question was "would we get similar respect to a club like Wolves" or something of that nature.
We wouldn't because we wouldn't spend tens and tens of millions

Respect has to be earned , I agree if ( a very Big if ) we go up yes we will have to spend
But there will always be bargains to be had , you don't always have to spend pogba type money to survive

I can see us getting promoted but I can't see us performing as Wolves have done, they've blown 50 million plus and switched half of the first team, we'd be more like Fulham.

Fulham spent around £100m in the summer, I can't see us doing that

We’ve seen it before and there are still top quality players who’s contracts are ending at all levels.
We benefitted when in league one, we’ve benefitted from it in the championship too.
I can’t see why we wouldn’t be able to find one or two free transfer players if we made it into the premier league.
Nowt wrong with that, most recently the free players have turned out to be the best players!!
Strikers are the ones that demand the biggest fees, and if we go up we may well already have the midfield...for a season or two at least. Defence might need another tweek, keeper may see Hendo arrive permanently leaving Wilder to focus his budget on strikers.
So what I am saying is that I wouldn’t be at all surprised to see United break the £10m pound barrier.

To put it into perspective, 10m would buy you a 1/3 of Ahmed Musa.

Yep, but I still see spending beyond that £10m figure as being a big step for United.
It might also see us be able to compete with others for those unknown foreign strikers that are on the up.

I'm still too frightened to dream, I am still expecting it to come to an end and finish 10th. It will be the boardroom issue that will then get the blame.on a more positive note we are a quarter of the way through, playing well, coutts is back, January transfer window, positive comments from competition fans and managers, and of course wilder and knill, my demons have gone, bring it on, somebody tell me when this journey will end.

Maybe not quite a big step when you look at the numbers!
"Even a doomed Premier League campaign is worth a fortune. As an example, Middlesbrough finished 19th in 2016/17 but were handed a cheque for a £98,820,976 by the Premier League."

The thought of spending a few millions when that sort of income is guaranteed shouldn't be too daunting - even for us.
Especially when we know we have a recruitment team that know how to get value for money (most of the time)

We have however sold:

Rangey midfielder, currently playing in the PL
Nimble left winger, playing in the SPL
England international central defender, currently wanted by the very top clubs, and likely to end up overseas
England international right back, sold recently for more than SUFC is worth
Welsh international central attacking midfielder, likely to be targeted by bigger clubs within two or three seasons

We got a lovely Desso though.

You missed out the 'ginger midfield genius' that we sold in January 2018 to pay for the second installment.

You who keeps bringing this up, and me who keeps hitting you with the reality stick.

I can't stop myself.
Maybe I'm obsessed?
After all, everyone loves a sailor.

Doe the 'reality stick' come in black leather and what do I get if I'm really naughty?

I was likening us more to performance levels, without realising a team could perform so badly after spending so much. Looks like Jokanovic has benefitted from inheriting a squad too good for the Championship without having the skills to take it on.

With all due respects Pommpey , only the pigs don’t sell players
If Real Madrid can sell Ronaldo , if Manu sell a player for under a million then buy him back for over £60 million
Then unfortunately we as a club and a business have to sell players .
Who in all honesty could have seen any of those players staying with us ( I would have liked to have seen it myself ) but knew we would sell one at the first sniff of a pound , and players and there agents wanting to go
Every club playing professional football sell good / great / players with potential
We’ve done it before and unfortunately we will do it again
I won’t be happy when it happens
But maybe if we where a league higher we could have kept some of the players you mentioned

I'm amazed at what some folk find to worry about. I am just about coping with the thought that 9 more wins would probably ensure we don't get relegated; indeed, I am now fairly confident that we will find those wins. How much we spend in the Premier League is not yet keeping me awake at night.

My apologies, in which case I agree!
