Three major factors we're missing for the top 6 IMO... Pace, a proven goalscorer and a Duffy role player

Sir CW has said a few times we don't need pace but i want to know why? You cant beat it specially coming off the bench when opponent players are tired. Holmes and Brooks have left so not bringing in a similar replacement is very strange as Duffy is 32 and not a full game player, we lack that quickness and spark like Brooks gave us so i don't see how you cannot have/want pace???

All summer we've chased two 'proven' strikers who we never really saw coming.. so why not chase others? Maybe they was a chance of Waghorn before Derby and Boro came sniffing but Hogan hasn't played a game for months so he wouldn't have been fit anyways? The four strikers we have aren't good enough for top end Championship either. Notice how QPR have picked up after signing Wells and Hemed? Not only do they score but they give the club a big buzz and it would have been the same at BDTBL!

You might think this is a dig but it's just a realistic view and something we've lacked since last season!

Fair points. Woodburn looking so far off the pace has been a blow. I reckon CW thought he could do AM and CF.

The question around why we didn't have other targets is tied to the lack of an overseas scouting presence. Our potential pool of signings is small and as such it's hard to find any value

Aye, I'd have liked another good striker. I reight wanted Wells.

Didn't happen though. These threads are getting boring. They're all basically 'we would be better if we signed better players.'

We will certainly struggle if Duffy gets a knock, although as Carlton Blade has stated, Woodburn was no doubt expected to make more of an impact than he has so far, but it's hard for him to get meaningful game time anyway because of how Duffy is playing. Ironically it might be an injury to Duffy that brings out the best in him as he gets more time on the pitch? Only time will tell on that.

I partly agree with regards to the strikeforce, but do maintain that a fit Sharp and McG, along with last seasons Clarke would probably be well fancied by several top half championship teams. Others might disagree.
Despite that I will concede that our other squad areas look and feel stonger. We have a solid top 10 defence with a keeper who is probably top end/lower prem on his day, along with a core midfield who, when fully fit, are promotion standard.

Pace is always a good asset to have but I understand what Wilder means. The way we play doesn't often get players in behind and it's more important to our style that we have good technical players who work hard. If you could find a few of those players who have pace as well, then all the better.

We thought we had a Duffy replacement in on loan, and it couldn't have been any more high profile. Unfortunately that hasn't worked out yet but there is still time for Woodburn to show he can be a decent backup.

We have the most proven goalscorer around, but do need someone to take the load off of Sharp. Clarke probably is past it now at almost 34, especially when you consider his form of the last nine months. We do seem to have dodged a very expensive bullet in Waghorn though.

All in all the squad is in a good place and a couple of week areas can be rectified in January. If we can hang around our current position until then I'll be very confident of a top six push.

I'd like to see Fleck/Norwood and Coutts all in the same team pulling the strings - possibly at the expense of Duffy, and then use Duffy as impact 2nd half. All three capable of playing killer passes in and around the oppositions penalty box.

Basham/Egan and JOC look sound at the back with a very confident and growing stature of Henderson in the goal. Don't think we'll concede a lot.

Perhaps those 3 in midfield can give the forwards the ammunition. We need to be solid in defence, not conceding and winning some games 1 nil - then expand on that and grow into the season.

If the killer pass played by Norwood had been finished by Baldock, we would be an extremely happy bunch of fans.

If Billy Sharp isn't a proven goalscorer then I'd love to know who is.

Ah yes, but 'penalties don't count' and he's old and fat.

A 'proven' goal scorer is one that costs more than £10m. It doesn't matter if he hasn't actually 'proved' he can score any goals, but it is vital that he cost a lot of money.
