From The Mirror.....

Sheffield United boss Kevin Blackwell will try to sign Reading midfielder James Harper at the second attempt when the Championship window opens.

Harper was cleared for talks with the Blades before the deadline and they hoped to push the move through before running into a late paperwork snag.

United are sending midfielder Brian Howard the other way in a deal worth around £1 million, but they are expecting Harper to join them on loan with a view to a full-time move as part of the arrangement.

The Royals are willing to move out Harper because he is in the last year of his contract with Brendan Rodgers' club and they want to make some cash on him.

Maybe, maybe not but the club could do with clearing this up one way or the other, you know what some of our fans like, they'll be having kittens until they see him play for us, and we have no game this weekend!

When has Sheffield United FC ever communicated to their fans - usually gives them the Mushroom treatment - keeps them in the dark for long periods and then sh!t on them.

Mainly because the stupid knee jerk reaction by a large group of fans.

The club can't always explain things to the masses, i.e. what our transfer budget is because it effects neogociations amongst other things.

2 scenarios

1, The Blades have a bid accepted for a player, and nobody else knows that he is available, do we go broadcasting to everyone else and end up getting beaten to the players signing

2, We say we have got £20m to spend, as soon as word gets out that we are after a player then the price gets hoiked up

I am talking after the event not before or during it !
The club could very easily have given a pree statement yesterday after the transfer window had closed explaining the deals to the public. There has been debate on here wether the transfer of Harper is a loan, have we taken over his contract, has Howard been sold and if it is a loan how many more loans we can have during the season.
Again it goes down to plans - in business if you want to succeed you need a business plan in football the United way we just go along and see what happens - what price we are not in the same position as last season when we played Wendy and had to go out and loan Lupoli hours before the game cause we had no fit strikers having sold Beattie, Hulse, Shelton and Stead in the last few months!!!
