Balancing the books

So assuming Washington concludes our business until January, what does the balance sheet look like since the end of last season?

I know wages play a large part, and often incoming players will pick up more than outgoing.

However is anyone able to venture an accurate account of total transfer fees in and out since the end of last season?
 



Numbers wise there's more gone out than come in but a lot of those were younger lads and those who have been on the fringes of the squad or already on loan elsewhere last season. Obviously with the Brooks money we'll be ahead on pure fees (although free agents / loans will more than likely have had a fee attached) but I would imagine our wage bill has significantly increased since last season, not only with experience / quality of the new players but new contracts for some of the existing players.

Overall, no idea :)
 
We have not received all the Brooks money (from what I have heard) yet but I guess we spent the first lot of it on Norwood.

I think Wilder has spent wisely so far, better than he did in January.

Given the new deals, signing on fees and new players wages, do you think we're still looking healthy? Do we think the wage bill will have decreased overall or gone up?

I really don't know what to make of this window.

It seemed to promise so much but deliver so little but the squad is stronger than it was last year.

Maybe Wilder is playing the long game after being stung last Jan and leaving some in the tank for better signings this time round.

My guess is he was told that there would be little in the way of extra in Jan given the close proximity to the court date and as such he decided to keep some back. (or at least play extract the maximum out of what he got and hope prices drop in Jan for some of his targets)

Few would argue we are still a LWB and ST short of a sustained top 6 challenge.

Yep, it'll be healthy, don't worry.
We don't deal with agents that push for signing on fees for their players, so that's ones ruled out.
The free transfers would have been happy to just get another club, so their agents wouldn't have had much bargaining power, their remit was to get them placed elsewhere and of course they know that Sheffield United will oblige as long as there's no heavy agent negotiations.

The three kids Bryan, Henderson and Woodburn will have cost next to nothing, and two of them aren't even ours.

Egan cost a fair amount apparently but his wages wouldn't have been that good at Brentford

Norwood is probably the only player who has come in on bigger wages than the rest and that has been offset by 15 players going out.

New Season, new money coming in, and we've done nothing that shouldn't have been expected even without the sale of Brooks
