Do we really need a new striker?

Maybe Norwood and/or Couttsy coming back will provide the chances that were put away by Billy and Leon in the promo season and up to 'that night' in Burton?
They have both proved they can finish (Billy being the better of the two imo)
Yes, another different type/'better' striker would give us a different option, but another finisher? Maybe not.
was thinking the same GCB .. most teams at this level would kill for our front two.. the age thing comes in though in that they can’t be expected to do it all season without injuries/ drop in form etc

A fit Hogan would be good, and give us more of a threat in behind, but could do with a good alround striker who can lead the line aswell...added to what we've got,we'd be ok.

Yes we do!

Yes. Yes we do.

One injury or one suspension and we are snookered.

People always want quality over quantity, but we are lacking in both there. We need bodies up top.

No f*****rs thought this through apart from one or two.
Champions with 100 points. Top of the championship with Billy and Leon, when Coutts was playing.
How much more f*****n' toppy do we want to f*****n' get?!!

Kev...we need a striker. It's time to let that moth out of your wallet.

Yes but the player needs to be better than what we have. I don’t want another McGoldrick type or I think I would stick with what we have. If we end up with one from the 3 then Duffy and Woodburn can play in behind.

Norwood is by far our best signing I think which filled what I thought was our biggest need as we would have continued to struggle with evans in there

I originally thought 'yes', and that they needed to be fast, muscular, a willing runner and a handful. Someone able to run the channels, harry and to offer something a little different to what we have. Possibly only coming on as an impact sub. But I'm beginning to change my mind. Having listened to BA on Sheffield TV, it would appear that most of our play doesn't need that type of striker, just reaction in and around the box. Also with Coutts coming back, it would be difficult to shoe horn him, Fleck, Duffy & Norwood into the same side without going 1 up top, which if it meant getting those beauties onto the same pitch at the same time would get my juices flowing. Add to that Chedwyn rediscovering his mojo, and v.1 of him being the archetypal lone front man, it might be that we suck it and see until JTW (i'm not suggesting that we suck Ched. Norwood possibly if he continues being ace, but not Ched obvs). :D

Having reviewed this and other threads, plus United's recent policy regarding strikers, I've carried out some finite analysis and concluded that a new striker would have to fit the following profile:

a) He needs to cost less than £5m
b) He needs to be satisfied with <£10k pw so as to maintain squad "harmony" (i.e. not to upset Billy & Leon)
c) He must be at least 30 y.o.
d) He must be capable of scoring 15 goals per year
e) He has to accept he's only back-up for Leon and Billy until they are at least in their forties
f) He must be better than we've already got even though he's only coming in as back-up
g) Last but not least he must be pacey so he can get on to the end of Enda's hopeless punts into the box (sorry, I mean so he doesn't squander all those easy chances our excellent wing backs provide him with)

No wonder we can't fucking sign anyone.

So Bill and Leon get injured, then what?
Yes injuries are big concern. We have 3 strikers. David McG has bad history of injuries. Bill and Leon not particularly injury prone but any one can get injured at any point. In addition it is a long hard season and players of Bill and Leon's age will struggle to play 46 + games especially with our style which is high tempo, high pressing. Definitely need at lewast one more striker.

Asking for trouble not bringing at least one striker in.

We can all argue about who would be the right one, but we also need cover. Someone only as good as what we have would be better than no-one.

January is a long time away to rely on fitness, form and suspensions with those we have.

Keith Edwards was largely chatting utter shit on co-comms today but one thing he pointed out was how vulnerable Bolton looked when we got the ball in behind them and turned the defenders. Billy got through once but it would be nice to have a pacy option to do that more consistently.

FA cup apart, we've only go to play them once more this season though mate ;)

Duffy and K. Freeman makeshift strikers perhaps?

Nah.. yeah, we definitely need at least one.

No, we have Billy and Leon who are proven strikers at this level. They need better service from midfield.

No ….. we need two !! :rolleyes::D

UTB & FTP

100% need another body in, When Leon went off today, Henderson and the 3 Centre backs today went long a number of times when under the slightest bit of pressure. problem is it just came straight back at us, Billy was struggling against them understandably in the air and it seemed a little wasteful. on the other hand Leon wins many of the knocks on but its rare someone is on the end of them just wish we wouldn't go long with Norwood and Fleck plus Coutts there is no need to knock it long.

Feels undeserving finding negatives from what was a near perfect performance but we are at a critical part of the season and need to be honest.
